    Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to these boards. This is my very first pregnancy, and it's with twins. I'm so excited and had a GREAT first trimester, w/no morning sickness.

But it seems the minute I turned 14 weeks, all of a sudden, this horrible pain in my side down close to my pelvis started. First it started on my right side, it was extremely painful, and the only thing that seemed to help was resting and putting up my feet ALL DAY!!
Then it stopped after a couple of days but instead of going away completely, it just moved to my left side now. Same sharp pain.

My OB tells me it's round ligament pain b/c of all the stretching. She said being a first pregnancy AND twins, I'll probably have it pretty bad and it can last up to about week 22!
Well that's 2 more months, and I have no idea how I can take that! I already called out sick to work yesterday b/c of this pain, and today I went but I basically had to stay seated throughout the day.

I'm worried about the babies. I can barely eat b/c the pain is on my mind so much I have no appetite. I did listen to my doppler and heard both heartbeats just fine last night and I have NO bleeding or spotting. So I guess they are just fine, but I still worry.

So my question is, Is this normal for twin pregnancies for ligaments to stretch and hurt so much? And what have been your experiences with this pain, and does it get better over time? Is there any way I can get relief from this pain?
Please share any info you might have on this...

    Thanks,
    Liz

Welcome to the boards and congrats on your pregnancy! VERY exciting.

Yup, my round ligament pain started even before 14 weeks. Sorry it's so awful - as far as i know, nothing can be done; it's just your body preparing. There's no way of knowing how long it will last. (just be glad you're not feeling it AND puking your guts out at the same time! [IMG]

    hang in there........

This is my first pg as well and my round ligament pain started at 14w3d, so you're not alone. It hasn't been constant, but comes and goes, mainly at night. It has even woken me up a few times (like I needed help in that department!). My doc said to make sure I let them know if it lasts longer than a few minutes, so they can check and make sure the pain is not something more serious, and that i could take Tylenol to ease the pain. Have you tried that?

I didn't realize this could last thru week 22!!!

Mine started early, too, and there really wasn't much I could do about it. I would take a warm bath to soak my muscles. Tylenol here and there. Tried some prenatal stretches. And as far as how long it lasts, well, I still have it now and I am almost 35 weeks. It isn't my first pregnancy, but I am 5 ft 4 in and have a short torso. Could be a reason? Not sure...but I am sure everyone is different in terms of what they experience and for how long. On the plus side, thank goodness you haven't had morning sickness - that would probably have made the strain on those ligaments even worse if you were unable to keep food down!

Don't worry too much about those babies! I was so sick in the beginning that I am not sure I ate much of anything, espececially food that was good for me! Do the best you can and stay hydrated -

    best of luck!

Congrats on the twins and Welcome to TS.
I had round ligament pains early too. I even went to the Dr. several times because it just out right hurt. I did Tylenol and warm baths and a lot of laying around.

Thanks so much for replying so quickly. Right now I just woke up and it doesn't hurt so much. But in a couple of hours I will be at work, and I know it'll kick in again. I am dreading going in today.

But it does help to know you all have been through it and survived. I am so grateful about not having the m/s along with this pain. Thanks for the encouragement.

SilvHeart, I've tried the tylenol but it doesn't seem to work for me. I don't want to OD on it. But I probably will take some today if it gets me at work again.

ReallytiredMom, I'm also 5'4 with a short torso!! What a coincidence!! I wondered very early on how I would handle carrying twins with such a short torso. Although I haven't begun to really show yet, just a very little belly which I'm probably the only one that notices b/c it was just so flat before. I wonder if that really does contribute to the pain.... I will try the stretches and warm bath too.

Jodari, Wow, yours started before the 14 weeks. Do you still have it?
