We have been battling major stomach issues in our house the past 4-5 days. Both babies have disgusting diarrhea diapers all day long that practially blow holes in the back of their outfits - requiring 2-3 baths a day. They throw up, want to sleep all day, and have little energy for play. One baby refuses to eat or drink anything and the other is only eating 1/2 of his normal amount. I took them to the doctor AGAIN today, and brought along samples of the diapers (disgusting I know). The doctor diagnosed Rotavirus. For those of you who have dealt with this, how long did it last? I cannot wait for this to be over - I worry about them dehydrating constantly and I just want my easy going, playful babies back!

Also - did any of you get this when your babies did? I have been throwing up all day (sorry if TMI) with no other symptoms (no I am definitely not pregnant!) and the pedi said it's possible I could have it too. Wonderful!

My DD ended up with this last year, and it lasted about 2 weeks. The pedi recommended really small amounts (like 1 tablespoon if I'm remembering correctly) every 15 minutes until they can keep stuff down. She can gradually increase what they take in. If they can't keep in the small amounts they could end up with an IV so they don't get dehydrated.

Luckily I didn't end up with it, my DH did. His didn't last as long as DD, so hopefully if you've got it you get feeling better quickly.

{{{{{HUGS}}}}}, Rotavirus is so awful. My oldest had it when he was 2 and we all ended up getting it. Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

We just had that about 3 weeks ago. It lasted for 10 days and the diapers and throw up were horrible. I gave mine bubblegum flavored pedialyte and they drank that o.k. The doctor said we could also get plain pedialyte and add crystal light for flavor. Said to stay away from juice as sugar can make diarrhea worse and also to not give milk based formula. They both got really bad diaper rashes as well that turned to a yeast infection. I used Lotrim to clear the yeast because the nystatin would not work. We also put like a 1/4 inch of vaseline on the entire bottom to help keep the water in the poop away from the skin. Good luck and I feel for you. ;)

My girls both had it, poor hubby had it too. Since my girls were eating solids by the time they had this gross bug we would take a jar of stage one carrots and mix it with 2 to 3 ounces of water in a bottle and feed it to the girls and their gross diapers stopped in a matter of a day! It was something my aunt had told me worked with my cousin when she was a baby. Since the girls weren't keeping formula or anything else down, the carrots really helped our piece of mind about them eating and staying hydrated because of the few ounces of water mixed in. I think it lasted with them about 8 days total and we tried the carrots about 5 days into it. Hopefully it's over for you by now but if not try the carrots!

We are battling it at my house, too. I got it first, then my 2 yo, then my husband, now the twins. Only 2 more people to go through then maybe we're done! I just want to know how you are supposed to comfort 2 very unhappy babies when one or the other is always pooping or puking!! I knew it would be hard when they got sick, but this is crazy!
