Parker is rolling over from his back to his belly. It's so exciting to watch him becoming mobile. (Riley has no desire whatsoever to move off his back--the best I get from him is a few kicks.) He does it constantly but gets frustrated because then he can't get off of his belly. All this means I can't leave him on the floor and walk away because he will be screaming in frustration within a minute. My concern is with bedtime. Last night I was so afraid he'd roll over in his sleep. I checked on him 4 or 5 times during the night and he was still on his back. I went in around 4:30 am to get Riley who was fussing and Parker had flipped over on his belly and was laying in the complete opposite direction from where he started ( I have no idea how!) . Should I be concerned? I know they are supposed to lay on their backs to sleep and I don't think I'm crazy about using sleep positioners since I've read that they can actually be a hazzard themselves, especially if babies wiggle out of them. So should I be worried at night??

From everything I have heard if they are able to roll over than they are fine. I know when mine starting rolling over I was terrified but they were fine. I still checked them a few times but they are strong enough to be able to move their heads when needed.

I've heard the same thing. Once they can roll over it is okay for them to sleep on their stomachs if they move that way themselves. If he is awake, definitely feel free to turn him back to his back though for your own piece of mind. It can be nerve-racking when they start belly sleeping.

I agree with the other posts. I'm having the same issue but mine have always been belly sleepers and now they're rolling onto their backs and freaking out every night. That's actually why I'm up right now!

We had the same problem with both girls. DH and I were so nervous about them sleeping on their bellies especially because they mastered back to belly before belly to back. We flipped them back for the first two nights and then realized it was futile. They were determined to sleep on their bellies, and we had to deal with the crying when they woke up and couldn't roll back. I won't lie to you, it was a long couple of weeks before they mastered all types of rolling.

Like PPs, I wouldn't worry about flipping him back over. I've read the same thing, that you should put them to sleep on their backs and if they then decide to roll over, let them be. Cora is also doing this. It's like she has a magnet on her tummy attracting her to the floor (or crib, or whatever). They'll learn how to roll back eventually! Hopefully, it'll be sooner than later!

I wouldn't worry too much. Once they are able to roll like that you can pretty much let them sleep however they want. Mine started rolling from tummy to back first but loved sleeping on their tummy, which made bedtime really hard. They wanted to sleep on their tummy but as soon as I put them down they would roll over and would not fall asleep on their back. They have fianally grown out of that and with sleep which ever way they are comfortable. Jack likes his side and James still likes his tummy. I would just make sure there isn't anything at all in their crib. Like pp said it may be a little while before they master both ways and their may be some flipping involved just to get some sleep.
