I posted about a week and a half ago about the boys rolling back to tummy and getting stuck. Well...we're making what appears to be zero progress getting back over. It is insanely frustrating for me and them. They whip themselves over like little acrobats, end up on their tummies and then fuss and cry with their arms flailing. They used to at least be able to use their forearms to push up a little, but it's like they've regressed or something.

I know what everyone's going to say [IMG]: they'll figure it out. Really? When? I feel like we can't even play on the floor anymore, because one or both are rolling constantly, and then it's just fussing/crying. I'm exhausted, they're exhausted. Is there anything I can do to help them? I've tried more tummy time, propping with pillows etc.

You can try practicing on the floor with them. Put them on their bellies, and then help them do the movement to get them over. Do the first part, then let them do the rest, and then praise them when they've done it. I think this helped my girls learn.

The very same thing happened with my DD. The funny thing is she learned to roll from belly to back first. Once she learned to roll from back to belly she forgot how to roll back over. I will be honest with you . . . this went on for months. She would roll onto her belly and then just start crying hysterically. I tried all of the wonderful tricks that everyone suggested on this site; however, nothing helped. Like I said earlier it took her months to figure it out again. Sometimes she still gets frustrated and starts to cry. I just wanted to let you know that I know exactly how you feel. Good luck!

We used to do practice rolls with them. At first we would roll them all the way, but then after awhile we would just get them until they were almost over and let them do the rest. They will get it.

Your post was way to similar to my boys so I had to look back in my notes...

At 5 months, Nicholas rolled back for the first time. I was so excited. But he fooled me because he did it just every once in awhile. It was not until this week that I dont have to flip him anymore!!!

Seamus consistently flipped himself back around 6 months.

It is so frustrating. You cant leave them for a second becuase one always cries because he needs to be flipped. I hope they figure it out soon for you.

It is still the same now though...I cant leave them for a second because they roll everywhere!!

My kiddos did the same thing. I think they probablly fussed to be rolled for about a month after they learned to roll consistently from back to belly. It seemed that once they were strong enough to push up entirely, rolling from belly to back was easy. They'll get there in their own time and it will be perfect.

Ditto here! Here is what we learnded from the Physical Therapist: when they are on their belly, tuck one arm under the chest/stomach and lift the other arm in the air. Then help them roll over in the direction if the tucked arm. it worked wonders here FAST!

My son's PT showed me how to help my DD do the movements it would take to help her roll over. She said her back muscles were just really stiff ( they were colicky and spent lots of time swaddled and in their swings for the first 3-4 months). She showed me how to hold her on her side up against my chest and use my other hand to hold the arm that was away from me in, so that her back muscles were slightly stretched and in that turning position. She also suggested slow outward massage of the arms and back muscles, hips, and legs just to loosen her up. It worked within 2 weeks. I say practice, practice, practice.
