Karina can roll over both ways. However, she only does it one way or the other at a given time. For instance, she rolls from back to tummy and then gets mad because she can't get back to her back. An hour later she will roll from tummy to back and then won't roll back to her tummy. I know she can do it, she just can't seem to remember when she wants to. Is this common when they start to roll over? She's so frustrated.

Totally normal-mine have been rolling for months but just now are able to "remember" how when they want to.

My guys both started rolling tummy to back around 3 months so we knew they could do it and do it proficiently! At 4 months when they started rolling back to tummy, they had the same problem. They would get on their tummy and then get really frustrated. They kept burying their noses in whatever surface they were on and whining. It was driving me crazy. We would roll them back on their back and before our hands even left them they would be rolling back to their tummies again. It was an endless cycle and about a week of sleepless nights before they remembered that they knew how to roll the other way. During those days we spent lots of tummy time (started on our tummies not backs) and eventually they remembered how to roll over. Although their first few attempts they would start their head over and I guess muscle memory from going the other way would kick in and they would whip it back up. They did finally get the hang of it again though and now they roll 6 feet right off the mat in one fell swoop.

Sofia is doing this! She has always had trouble rolling tummy to back, but she has done it. But now she is rolling back to tummy and forgetting she can roll back the other way, and cries!

Totally normal. We had weeks of frustrated babies while mastering rolling. Use this time now to baby proof!

Ditto that mine did this as well. And we took this as a sign to start thinking about baby-proofing as well.

Maia did that too. I thought she was forgetful but now she is a pro and rolling all over the crib! Both ways!

Its funny it seems like she 'remembered' when I stopped helping her! :D

Yup, Luke still forgets. It's funny because he will sit there mid roll with a look like, "Say what?"

I am pretty sure this is normal. Jack does this all the time. It makes him so frustrated. Claire rarely rolls. She knows how, but I guess isn't that interested in doing it yet. Oh well.
