    Hi,
Last month I posted a concern about my boys not rolling over yet. They are now 7 months old and still refuse to roll over. I give them plenty of floor time. They are sitting by themselves now and they would much rather sit then be on their backs or tummies. At their 6 month well the doctor suggested if by 9 months they still weren’t rolling over we might have to consider Early Intervention. This scared me! They seem to be doing fine with everything else they’re suppose to be doing at this age except for rolling over. Does anyone have any advice? Should I be worried that something could be wrong with them?

I think they are fine.. Honestly.. Whats going to happen? They sit... They will roll over in time. Its not like they will never roll over in their life time. Maybe they just have no need or want to roll!!!

When we went in for our 6 month check-up mine were not rolling, but my DD was sitting. The PED told me that because babies sleep on thier backs now they roll much later and that rolling is not even considered a milestone anymore. I would not worry too much.

Since then they have become rolling machines. :)

Hi - I agree with the previous posters - DO NOT WORRY!

My girls are a few days shy of nine months and they just started rolling two weeks ago. Now they roll all over the place and use rolling as their major means of "transportation".

Every other piece of their development was right on schedule or maybe even early (they could sit perfectly by 5 months, teeth at 7 months, standing up at 8 months, etc.) so I didn't really let the lack of rolling bother me, but I did wonder if it would ever happen. Then one day *poof*, they both discovered that they could roll and get places quickly. Now they never stop. So, trust me, your boys will roll. It just might not be when everyone says it will happen.

my girls hate tummy time i think at most they r happy for about 2 minutes then go crazy n start crying im not sure if my girls r going to turn either but 1 sits for a few sec here n there on her own if i sit her up ... so i kind of hope they take rolling over off the milestone list hahah :D

I've also heard that rolling was not a milestone. My boys roll, but let me tell you, I would trade that ANY day for sitting! Good job babies! I don't think you have any reason to be worried at all. But if you are, I would just call EI for your own peace of mind. When my doctor mentioned it to me I froze in shock! I went ahead and made the call and I actually have an appointment with them on Thursday. If you want, I can let you know what the initial evaluation is like. I called them because my boys are not sitting up yet. Good luck!

This is what I was told as well. In fact, our ped said that several milestones are being reached later than they used to be because babies are not sleeping on their tummies anymore. My dd Arwen didn't roll over until she was 8 months old. 3 weeks later she started crawling. Try not to worry. Some babies just have no interest and just content to do what they are doing. If he is sitting up on his own but not rolling over, I wouldn't think there are any kind of delays to worry about. Just a son who has a mind of his own. ;)

Hannah never rolled. She learned how to sit up, going from her back straight into a sitting position -- talk about abs of steel!!! It was the funniest looking thing. We had her evaluated at 10 mos for EI and she qualified, but when she started crawling at 11 mos., we just dropped it. We figured if she could sit up, crawl, pull up, and cruise on the furniture, it really didn't matter that she could not roll. So my advice is not to worry!

Your little ones are just fine. Athena did roll over at 4 months but prefered not to. and at 5 mnths sat and would perform if i put her on her tummy. When she started crawling she decided it was ok to turn around. She just refuse to before that. And she is ok. Some babies just dont feel like it and will do it when they feel ready or i Athena's case "saw a purpose" for it.

I am in the same boat....if they don't role back-to-front and vis versa by their 6 month appt....which is in a few weeks....they will refer them to EI. Now with Carlie, she has done both, but doesn't do it consistantly. However, she is very strong and will have no issues with sitting up. Claire on the other hand has only roled from her tummy to back a few times and doesn't seem very strong with her back/legs. I am thinking EI may be good for her, but will find out shortly.

On the other hand, its amazing how many babies could careless about rolling, but do fine with everything else.
