Just wondering what is the typical age for rolling over. DS has managed to roll from his tummy to his back, but not the other way around and DD has not rolled at all. They are 5 months (4 months adjusted) and am wondering if we are doing something wrong. Is there anything one can do to facilitate rolling over or let nature take its course?

Tummy time is what motivated mine to roll over. They didn't like being on their tummies. Mine started to roll around 5 months old from belly to back.

My girls are the same way. Celi can go from tummy to back but Ari hasn't done either. They are about the same age as yours. Our Ped. said not to worry until 6 months. With reflux our girls dont spend much time on their tummys.

My boys have both been rolling from their tummy to their back since 3 1/2 months.. They REALLY hated tummy time.. And they both started rolling from their back to their tummy about a week and a half ago.. So 4 1/2 months or so... BUT my first son didn't roll until he was 6 1/2 months... I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if you want to encourage rolling try putting a toy or something just out of reach so they have to roll to get it..

    good luck!!

I just want to say that I'm happy to hear that other babies hate tummy time as much as mine do! Maya screams after a minute or two & if Levi doesn't fuss about being on his tummy, he goes right to sleep. Tummy time is not very productive for us. I still try it every day, but they're just not interested.

I'm in the same boat. My girls are 5.5 months (4.5 months adjusted), and I have seen them roll from front to back a couple of times, but that's it. And no attempts at all to go from back to front. They don't like tummy time very much at all, but I do lay them on a colourful blanket surrounded by lots of toys and help them to rollover both ways repeatedly. Still, it doesn't seem to be "taking"!

My girls are almost 6 months and one rolls all over the place, the other rolls from back to front and stays there and cries, I wish she would roll back, it is getting very annoying rolling her back over all day long.

Claire rolls both ways and has for a few weeks now but Athan hasn't even started to try at all.

It's different for all of them!

Thanks for sharing! Mine also hate tummy time, I am glad we are not alone in this. I guess they will do what they need to do when they are ready!

My twins are 5 months (4 months a.a.) and they've been rolling from their back to bellies for a few weeks now. My DS can sometimes go from his belly to back, but not my DD. I think some babies just like to move and others don't. My first DS rolled and crawled early and he's always been very active.

For the first 3 months my twins were swaddled and put in swings or bouncies all day and night and then we changed things up and started putting them on the play mat as soon as they would wake up from their naps. We'd put them on their backs and then roll them to their bellies for as long as they could stand it. Ultimately they decided they wanted to be on their bellies longer and longer and then decided to just roll on over! Now they can't stop themselves. Like little Energizer bunnies! Don't worry, they all do things at their own pace!

Olivia has been rolling over from her tummy to her back since 2 months old and Gavin around the 3 month mark. Now Olivia at 5 months rolls from back to tummy but Gavin is still perfecting his tummy to back.

Tummy time is what is going to encourage this more, but maybe put lots of toys around them but just out of reach for them to be motivated to roll? I try and get on the floor with them as much as possible as well.

Thanks! I am gonna try putting a lot of toy around my daughter. I already get on the floor with her, but will keep trying with the toys. Just got to be more consistent with her, although with my son refluxing all the time, it gets hard to spend time with her more often.

As much time spend on the floor as possible, on their tummy and on their back, is about all I know that you can do. Other than that, it's a waiting game. I'm sure they will be rolling really soon, it just takes some babies a bit longer than others.
