Rolling over in sleep

My son has been sleeping through the night since he was about 3.5 months. At about 4 months, 1 week, he started rolling to his tummy and sleeping on his tummy. Everything continued to go well. Until this past week. He now can roll from his tummy to his back (sometimes), but then is against the side of the crib. He doesn't know how to roll back over the other way. (He can only roll to the left.) So now we're dealing with one or two wake ups a night. We've tried to just let him fuss, thinking he'll figure it out, but after about 30 minutes when he hasn't, I've just rolled him over toward the right and he goes back to sleep. During the day, we're practicing rolling to the right, but he's obviously not getting it.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do? How long did it take until they can figure it all out? Thank you!

I went through the same thing. I would have to get up in the night & roll him over and then he would go back to sleep. It really only lasted a couple of weeks, it still happens occasionally but for the most part he manages to get himself over on his own now.

One of the more annoying phases that they go through!! Both for them and us! Just keep practicing with him and he will get it, and eventually will be able to get back over on his own. I think it only lasted a couple of weeks with my babies. :hug99:

Yep, happened to us too. It only lasted a couple of weeks and like pp, we just kept practicing. One thing I would do with Emma is put her far to the right because I knew she would roll the other way and she would have room and not be against the rails. That helped a lot.

Same thing happened here with ds at about the same age. I would just go in very quickly and flip him back. It didn't last long either, maybe a week.

My DS did this for a long time.
What we finally did was put him to sleep on his side and then took two blankets and rolled them up and put one behind him and one in front of him. Then I took another blanket and used that to tuck around him and hold the rolled up blankets in place. I made sure to put the blankets far from his face so he could get them.
This prevented him from being able to roll on his stomach or back while he slept. I did this until he could roll over both ways and sleep without waking up.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone (nor is my son)! Thanks for giving me hope that there's a light at the end of the "short" tunnel, and not just the nightlight when I go to flip him back over!
