One of my boys rocks side to side (from one foot to another) when he is standing up watching TV. My husband asked me last night if it is something to worry about. I never thought it was but now I am wondering...

    Thanks!

Mine just started this too over the weekend! but he does it while sitting on the floor on in his high chair (doesn't walk yet). I just figure its something "new" he figured out he can do. Just like putting his toys on the top shelf of the bookcase, banging his head on the window..... Gee, i hope its nothing to worry about!

One of my sons does this too. I actually just think of it as cute! My husband taps his feet when he's sitting down at the table or his desk. I twirl my hair when I'm watching TV. I've never thought of it as odd...

My thought is that rocking is self-soothing behaviour and I would say if he only rocks while watching tv maybe it's overwhelming him? Maybe it's too much for him and you might try to limit the time he's watching? Like if he'll start rocking after 20 minutes you could stop him watching after 15'.
    just a thought.

Victoria does this too, but I noticed its only when there is music on the tv. Guess she is dancing and that is her way of doing it. Athena bops up and down.

I believe it's a self soothing/comforting gesture. Or he might be doing it because he's bored. If he doesn't respond to your voice right away while rocking and ignores you then maybe, but I doubt it's nothing more than self soothing. I'd be more concerned about front to back rocking along with a certain "vacant look" or unresponsiveness.
