So I've been trying rice cereal for the last week or so and it is not going well at all. Neither are very interested and most of the time spit it all out. Should I stop and wait a while to try again? And then how do I know when to move on to veggies? This whole solids thing is stressing me out!

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't plan to even think about starting solids until our boys are at least 6 months old. I'm in NO hurry.

Rice cereal was a disaster in our house too! We ended up switching to oatmeal after about 2 weeks and it was amazing, they loved it! When they turned 6 months we started the veggies and fruit, per our ped's instructions.
Just be patient, it will come sooner or later!
    Good luck!

I waited until 6 months & mine were good & ready for cereals & foods :good:
Give them some more time & I am sure they will warm up to it.
Also, I mixed in bananas with the cereal & they *loved* it!!

Personally, I'd put it away and try again in 2 weeks. No sense stressing - it's early days anyway. That's what I did. At 5.5 months they were ready.

They're only 4 months old. There's no rush and solids are definitely a hassle. I'd wait at least a month if not longer before trying again. The babies don't need the food right now.

Mine hated rice cereal when I first tried it. I never got them to take any baby food until they were almost 6 months old, and then I had to mix something with the rice cereal.

I started at 6 months... One loved it, the other still couldn't care less.

I started at 6 months and they did pretty well. One better than the other. I'd wait a few weeks and then try again - they just might not be ready yet. Don't stress over it - they'll be eating you out of house and home soon enough! ;)

It can be exciting to start solids, but then it is just one more thing... I didn't try until over 5 mos. with my girls, but they weren't really into it. Caddie has a small tear in her rectum anyway :( so we are staying away from solids till it heals. We need her poop to be as soft as possible.

FTR, only one of my older three would ever eat cereal.

Are you giving it to them with a spoon? Perhaps you can trying adding it to their bottles ( increasing the nipple size) . You can progresively add more. I have been giving mines rice ceral since they have spitting up issues. I'm sure this would work for you.

You shouldn't put cereal in the bottle unless it's to help with reflux... It can lead to overeating.

I would just wait and try again in a few weeks.

So just stop. If it's not going well, take a break and try again in a month. It's not like they'll be behind if you wait and try again later. There's no nutritional reason to start with rice cereal or do it at a specific age. Many people start with veggies because rice cereal is so bland and yukky. So again, no rule... move on to veggies whenever you and your kids are ready.

We tried at 4 mos for like a week or so and it didn't go well either. I tried again at 5 mos and it was so much better.

I'd stop and try again in 2 weeks, or even wait until they are 6 months. Mine never did like rice cereal, maybe try oatmeal next.

We started at 4 months also, and rice cereal was very unpopular. After about a week, I added some sweet potato puree to it, and it was like a sea change. They just didn't like the rice cereal by itself. So you might try adding something else to it. They become great eaters after that.

But it does take practice, and they have to get used to new textures and flavors. It takes a little while to adjust.

That said, as previous posters said, you don't have to do solids now; so if it's stressing you out, there's no harm in waiting!

    Good luck!
