reward system

I am a big ole procrastinator on the TOs. What I really want to do is encourage good behaviors so I bought a bunch of stickers since my girls love stickers but only get them as a treat.

Has anyone tried doing a reward system to encourage good behaviors? How did you do it? What behaviors were rewarded? Did you give them the reward or do a chart of some type?

Great question, Cohlee! I'd be curious to see some ideas myself. We do TO's but I think a reward system is also a great idea!

I don't know that they'll get it at this age unless the reward is immediate. I give a lot of praise and high fives, hugs and kisses for good behavior. Its been shown that reinforcing good behavior, and ignoring bad behavior (which is the essence of the time out), is far superior to punishing bad behavior (since the punishment is attention and thus reinforcing).

However, if you want to do a sticker chart or something there are lots of free downloads online (just google sticker chart), that you can print out. I'm not sure whether they will connect that the more stickers they have, the closer they are to getting a 'reward' but putting the stickers on the chart might be a reward all its own.
