Reunited the boys to one room

We always planned to reunite the boys into one room after seperating them at ~7months. We pulled the trigger this weekend. For the sake of play space, I set up the cribs end-to-end. The last two nights have gone out without much of a hitch. Yesterday we napped at Gma's, making today our maiden voyage at napping together. It went something like this:

    1:15 Tuck boys in
1:16 Giggling, jumping, and wildness commences
2:15 Wildness ceases, crying begins (just Nick, Joe joins in ocassional spurts)
    2:45 Mom gives up
2:46 Mom is bewildered upon entering the room to find the following scene:

Joe's crib: two pillows, eight stuffed animals, two blankets
Nick's crib: no pillows, stuffed animals, or blankets. Two boys. Joe happily rolling around in Nick's bed. Nick standing up crying "Get Joe out", several 'wet spots' <_<
On the floor: two pair of shorts, two diapers

My boys have NEVER attempted climbing out of cribs. I am now officially screwed on so many levels.

At first I was :shok: and then I was  . I'm so sorry, this has to be frustrating for you.

Can you sacrifice the play space for now until they get used to sleeping in the same room again? I hope it works out for the sake of mom's sanity!! :hug99:

You know what my two pulled this afternoon? Bea peed in the little potty, OK great. But, then they dipped their hands in the pee and painted on the wall. Well, at least it was pee and not poop. Yeah, naps are non-existent now. Sigh. Sorry you're going through this too. Maybe crib tents will buy you some more time? Once they are in beds, forget it.

I know when you are the one going through this- it isn't so funny. But this last line in your post made me laugh out loud.
I hope it works itself out. Maybe they will adjust to things and nap time will calm down. Good luck :hug99:

I forget how old your boys are exactly (where's that ticker when you need it). If my memory is right they are about 2.5? Anyhow at that age I would go to crib tents and I would also not put their cribs right next to each other.

We waited until they were 3 to take them out of their cribs and they still nap everyday. Of course we had the opposite situation and were finally able to split them up when they were 2.5.

When I put the cribs close enough to touch, one climbed into the other's crib. So, I moved the cribs far apart and they can't climb into the other one's crib anymore.

We had to get a crib tent for Kevin so that they would nap in the same room together! He was climbing into Pat's crib and having a blast. Siri, I wish I had better advice to give you! But I don't... just :hug99:!

The day Justin ended up in Jason's crib we switched to tents. We already had 1 tent in the closet & put it up that day. Jason wanted one too & then there were 2. Used them for at least another year. Your post made me laugh. Glad he went into his brothers crib & not the floor.

Another crib tent lover here! It kept them from throwing their stuff out when they were protesting...I mean playing...before they fell asleep. If you get the ones that are mesh all the way around, they can't even push things through the slats! They may take some time to go back to sleeping at nap, but you won't find another senario like this one again!

Been there, done that! Loved your play-by-play! We have always shared a room but there was a point when they realized how much fun it was to throw their toys back and forth (including blankets and anything within reach) and take their diapers off. At that point, we lowered their rails and convered the cribs. We focused more on helping them behave in their situation than trying to prevent it. We did not do crib tents or anything like that. We spent more time checking on them at nap time. We had consequences for rowdy behavior. Typically one or both of them would get time out for 2 minutes on the stairs if we had to give more than 2 warnings. Once the newness of their fun realization wore off and they realized they were getting in trouble, they calmed down.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that it is new and exciting for them and they just need to have boundaries.

I don't remember if we've discussed this before, but is there a possibility of separating them just for naps? Mine are happily in the same room (with crib tents) for nighttime, but the few times we've tried napping them in the same room, it's been a disaster. So Amy naps in a PNP in the office. I know you want the play space, but could you squeeze a PNP in there (or in your bedroom)?

I did get a laugh out of "Two boys." and the picture of Nick yelling for you to get Joe out. Sorry.... :D

LOL, I'm not actually looking for sympathy here, just thought you would all enjoy a good laugh at my expense. It was totally my fault for setting up the cribs end-to-end, which, at the time, I thought was smart b/c those sides are so high they'll never be able to climb over that way . I moved the beds so they are now ~3 feet apart, should do the trick. I'm betting that the antics/novelty simply needs to run its course and we'll be back to normal soon.

The fun didn't end there for us yesterday. We were outside doing some yardwork and shortly after coming in Nick walked down the hall with mud all over his hands, under his fingernails, and smeared across his chest (we were out there in diapers only). I couldn't understand how he managed to get that filthy b/c surely I would have noticed as we came in...alas, it was not mud, but feces! :bad: Into the bath we went.

Less than one hour later, we were brushing our teeth getting ready for bed. After giving their teeth a once over, I let them go to town while I moved the dirty bath towels into the laundry basket in the bedroom not 30 feet away. In the 8 seconds it took me to get from bathroom to laundry basket and back they had closed the door AND locked it! :icon_eek: I grabed a wire hanger and tried to pop it from the small hole outside, but we don't have push-button locks, and I don't exactly have any experience with locksmithing, so it was a futile effort. Meanwhile, I can hear two boys happily destroying my bathroom through the door. I was trying to walk them through unlocking it, but there are only so many ways you can express twist the button on the doorknob to a toddler who has done it exactly once, and likely by accident. After about ten minutes they started getting stressed out and I ended up having to remove the doorknob to free them. Nick was slicked down with what looked like half the bottle of lotion and the toilet apparently was in need of a shampoo as the boys donated the entire bottle to it for frothy fun.

DH is gone during the week every week on business this summer, so I can't even commiserate with him about it. So far, I'm still finding the antics (mostly) comical. Evenso, I'm keeping a tight hold on all the household Sharpies. ;)

This was me reading the end of your day:

"No!!" (hand to mouth shaking head!)
    "uh" (gasp sound)
    "NO" (hands to mouth again!)

    All were out loud!

I hope today is going better!!!!

Seamus locked himself in my moms bathroom a few weeks ago and it is also a turn type lock. She took a very small pointy tool and kept going round and round and was able to open it.

Today we went down for nap shortly after 1pm. They spent an hour happily chatting, but shortly after 2pm I had two sleeping boys who napped for 2 straight hours.

   <-----One dancing banana for each boy, and one for mommy!

    Yay for taking a nap!

And thank you for having a day that sounded very much like one of mine and sharing with such a sense of humor. We have little lock pick keys above every door because T&T LOVE to lock doors. I have a spare key hidden outside for the same reason. The previous homeowners didn't save the little lock picks that come with the knobs so I wrote to Kwikset asking how I can get some more. They sent them to me at no charge.
