My twins are 18 months & refusing to eat anything but milk!!!! What are you feeding them??

I've tried pretty much everything! They seem pretty content & happy so I'm not worried about their wieght or anything but it's so frustrating when I make try so hard to cook something nie for them & sit with tme for hrs & they just throw it or spit it back to me!!!!!! Are yours still in High Chairs?

    Thanks

Mine are almost 17 months and are definitely still in high chairs.

How much milk do they drink a day? Our pedi said no more than 24 oz a day or else it will affect their eating. Do you think they are filling up on milk and thats why they refuse to eat?

Also, if they aren't going to eat, we get down from the chairs and go play and try again later. One of my DD's has definitely been eating less at lunch (and sometimes I do give her a little extra milk because of that), but I'm not too worried since she consistently eats a big breakfast every morning.

As for what they eat- anything that we eat! Pasta, veggies, potatoes, rice, meat, fresh fruits, canned fruits (rinsed), crackers, yogurt, oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, etc etc etc. GL!!!

    Hi,

They drink 3 bottles a day. This is what they do today:

7:30 am wake - 1 bottle of milk
    Bath, play
    9:30 breakfast
    park
    12:30/1:00 lunch
    2:00 nap
    4:00 wake & snack
    play
    6:30 dinner
    8:30 bottle
    9:00 bedtime

Please suggest if I should alter the schedule?

    Thanks

Thats pretty much our schedule, except mine get sippies of milk not bottles.

7:30 wake up and have a sippy of milk (about 7oz)
9:30 breakfast with a water sippy
    10am nap
    11:30 wake up and play
1pm lunch with a milk sippy (about 4-5oz)
    2pm play
4pm snack with a water sippy
    4:30pm nap
    6:30pm play
    7pm dinner with water sippy
8:30pm milk sippy (about 6-7oz), brush teeth and bed

I've heard you have to keep introducing new foods to kids so maybe try a couple things they've liked in the past and see if they will eat it. GL!

When you say they won't eat anything do you mean literally ANYTHING? If so, I think I would call the pedi. Maybe there is something else going on.

If they are eating foods, just not a variety, that is very normal. My girls eat a total of about 10 foods right now. It seems so boring to me, but they are definitely getting their nutrition in. Maybe you can decrease the size of their bottles to see if that will spark some hunger.

My girls have been in a space saver high chair since the beginning. We moved them up to the table around 20 months.

Mine are also still in high chairs for at least one meal a day. I find that even at this age they will eat much better if I feed them a bite or two during their meal. I know I had a horrible time with my girls eating and one of the things my SIL pointed out to me was that I was giving them a sippie of milk too close to their eating time. Their bellies are so little and a sippie will fill them up. I made sure that I did not give them any snack or sippie for at least an hour before mealtime. Once I did that, they began eating much better.

my girls are still in high chairs - we have the euro II from one step ahead and we really like them. They are very underweight so we have big issues since they too don't eat very much. The doctor told me, since they are so little to give them whatever they'll eat. Things they almost always will eat are..

    String cheese
    Fruit
    Cereal Bars
    Fruit leather
    cheerios
    kix
    corn pops
kellogs mini cinnamon buns (frozen for toaster)
Gerber Meat, chicken and turkey sticks (nasty i know, but it's protein)
    pretzels
    goldfish
cereal (baby multi grain) mixed with applesauce

    Sometimes they'll eat:
    chicken nuggets
    ravioli
    sweet potato
    quesadillas
    crackers with cream cheese
    cold cuts
    tuna
    cream cheese and jelly sandwich
    olives
    tomatoes

They always feed themselves. They absolutely will not allow me to feed them.

    good luck!

Thank you for yr replies. They eat only when they are starving! and yes, they just want to eat by themselves. But i find that they don't eat enough when they eat themselves, do you find that? We give them different types of food everyday, but if they had a good b'fast they will not eat well at lunch. They will just throw the food!!

They do sit in high chair & eat with the nanny but with me or DH they totally refuse to sit in there! I would like us all to eat together but it's not working! They will sit in their high chair or even eat anything. Do you guys have dinner together? How do you do it?

Also giving milk in the sippy cup...how did you dot he change?? Which sippy cups are you using? Mine only drink water/juice from it. Also they drink milk in their room during bedtime & when they wake up....do you give it downstairs?

Thanks in advance for yr advice.

It's all a part of the learning process. I bet they are getting too much milk, and like pp mentioned, have no room left for food.

We put them up to the table one day in their chairs and fed them the same time as us. For a while in the beginning I was making their food and a meal for us. As they got used to trying what was on our plate and I figured out what they liked and didn't, I started making dinners that were toddler friendly. My dh works evenings, so it's easy to do that for the three of us.

I went cold turkey. Formula in bottles one day, milk in sippies the next. The girls never fussed about it, but their intake of milk did drop dramatically for the first week or so. In the beginning I would bring their sippy cup up with me when I went to get them in the morning and change their diapers. And then I tried not bringing it in but talking to them about how we're going to go downstairs and get their milk, so that set that new routine. I offered their sippy to them all day long, at least a couple of times per hour, until they got used to drinking it. Eventually they got used to it and now it's offered mostly at meals and snack.
