We tried cereal Saturday night and they pretty much spit everything out. Grace would open her mouth and never close it and all the cereal would run out. Hope maybe did a little better but not much. Any suggestions? I think we are to young and will probably try again in a month.

We didn't start giving cereal until 6/7 months, so if it is too frustrating right now, you have plenty of time to try again!

I would probably wait another week or so and try again. It took mine a few tries to really get it.

I tried last week and one of mine did pretty good with it. I tried it two days in a row and the first day they both pretty much just got it all over themselves. The second day one did a little better but my other one just spit it out. So I decided to just hold off for another week or so. I'm sure it's just one of those things that they will get better at the more they do it.

I agree that you have plenty of time, so no worries! Cora is "getting it" pretty fast. Lucy, on the other hand...she wanted nothing to do with the spoon so we'll try again in a week or so.

It's good that they just kind of spit it out. Lucy screamed her head off!

Around the time we started giving them cereal, the girls did not take to it very well. We waited and tried again later, and slowly, through persistence, they got the hang of it.

Hi Missy - We tried for the first time about a week and half ago. Neither of mine cared for the rice cereal in the least!! We did continue to try (for the next three days), but we didn't push it at all. If they took it we gave them lots of smiles/praise, and if they acted disinterested, then we stopped.

I think the key is to avoid any negative associations with eating solids, so follow their cues, and you'll do great!

Yes, there is still plenty of time to give cereal. I waited until 6 months. They'll tell you when they are ready & don't force them. Your plan of waiting a month is probably good!

I tried at 4 months but the boys didn't seem ready. I tried again just after 5 months and they took to it like ducks to water. They'll let you know when they're ready. I'd put the cereal away and try again in 4 weeks. There's no real hurry - believe me it's just an added complication to your day once the inital excitement wears off!

I started at 4 months and they did ok with it. However i quickly learned they liked baby food better and we just skipped the cereal. It was binding to my little girl... So now they eat baby food and no cereal... :D

A lot of people start solids at 4 mo, but the AAP and other medical associations recommend waiting until 6 mo. Even at 6 mo, it's more for practice, and they should still be getting almost all their nutrition from breastmilk and/or formula. Looks like your babies are letting you know it's too early too!

No! Keep trying!! We had a ped appt on Fri and he said to start cereal. And he said that for about 5 days they would just tongue it out - they have to learn how to eat - so keep at it - they're not too young - they'll get it in a few days. I've already seen huge improvement w/ Lyla on just day 3. :) Good luck!

my ds refused to eat until he was 9 months old! he is now an awesome eater. definitely don't force the eating...you have plenty of time...and they WILL eat :) just keep trying every now and then...they might surprise you.
