So earlier this week I wrote about how my little Lillian is refusing to sit up. When she is sitting up she will arch her back to lay down and if you try to sit her back up she resists and pushes against you. She can and will sit up for short periods of time, but she used to sit up for a half hour or longer without any problems.

Anyway, I called the dr and felt kind of blown off and I am still a little worried so I called to set up an EI (Early Intervention appt). I had been thinking about it anyway since the girls were so early, just to make sure they were doing okay developmentally. Well, after talking to the woman from EI, I think it may be some type of abdominal pain or reflux. The woman at EI seemed very convinced about this and told me to call the dr again even though I still plan to have the EI assessment done.

So I am setting up a dr appt for her next week, but what do you think? Could it be reflux? I told the woman she isn't spitting up or puking and she said sometimes kids don't. We had a little trouble with this when the twins were smaller, but it seemed to clear up. Could it be that the introduction of more solid, harder to digest finger foods could bring it on again. I really haven't introduced any finger foods they haven't already eaten in mushed-form for except those teething cookies and rice cakes.

I just wanted to share that my boys both had bad reflux but did not spit up that much. Good luck with finding the answers! It is so frustrating when you dont know what is going on.

I had one with reflux with basically no spitting up at all, so it is possible, but it really doesn't sound that way to me? I am glad that you are going both to the ped and EI, I think, if nothing else, it will help put your mind to ease that you are covering all of your bases. Let us know what you find out. :hug99:

My son had reflux and spit up constantly. He also HATED sitting up. And he HATED the Bumbo seats. He would cry in his and spit up when he was more reflux-y, so I never forced it. He's just now sitting up without assistance, but he would fling himself backward and straightened like a board every time I tried to make him sit up. I think the position is harder for babies with reflux. I really think it compresses the stomach. It does get better.

I haven't heard of reflux causing issues with sitting up, but I wanted you to know that my kids did not sit unassisted until they were 10 months old, and they also did the back arch thing. While reflux was an issue for both of my kids, it was never considered the reason they sat up late. They were also late walker. Jackson walked at 16 months and Jaydon at almost 20 months.

Hi again, I just wanted to let you know that I merged your two topics, because TS does not allow duplicate posts. Thanks!

Ei diagnosed my son's reflux as well (his was caused by dairy protein intolerance which I diagnosed myself by process of elimination) so I wouldn't expect your Dr to know this stuff, they only know what you tell them so it's much less than you know yourself.

Oh and my kid arched too
