what symptoms did your baby show ??? I think my twins might have it . Seems they are throwing up more milk than they are keeping. And from the mouth and nose too.

If I can remember correctly (I have tried to block out those months ;) ) James would try and eat and then start screaming after an ounce or two. He would try eating again and the same thing would happen. He would also arch is back while eating - he could practically do a back flip out of my arms. Will's reflux was mild and didn't need meds. James was put on Zantac and was a new baby. James has always been a spitter. He still does it now, but it's rare. HTH...good luck!

Yes spitting up can be one sign, the crying (relentless crying) and arching of the back. My DD was put on different formula and zantac and now prevacid. She didn't do much spitting up.

Try feeding them sitting up as much as you can sit a 4 week old up. Also, when they are done eating, keep them at least at a 30 degree angle for 30 minutes afterwards before laying them down completely.

Gas drops help and don't help. I felt it was hit or miss. I would call your pedi and see what they say.

Oh and also the football hold, laying them face down in your arms or across your knees helps.

Emma would just SCREAM if we laid her down after eating and Alex would projetile vomit all over the place. We had them on Zantac and they slept in their bouncie chairs or car seats for about 3 months.

PP, had good ideas about keeping them up after eating.

Spitting up(or not), screaming while feeding, arching their backs, refusing bottles/breast. I would see the ped. :hug99:

My boys cried/screamed during and after feedings and arched their backs. They would be hungry and they would try to eat but it hurt so bad that they could not. My boys did not spit up.

My eldest was a happy spitter - no pain but constantly spilling. I didn't medicate as I thought it would resolve alot sooner than it did and I felt that she was fine with it - it was just me that had the problem. If it had happened with the twins I so would have gone further to medicate!!! I would suggest you speak to your ped - they will be able to confirm if you have a problem

My Benny was just diagnosed with reflux today - he will be starting Zantac tonight!

    His signs were:
    - spitting up lots from the mouth and nose ("fresh" milk and curdled stuff too)
    - acting generally fussy and miserable
    - arching his back and nodding his head when held
    - crying inconsolably (mostly in the evenings and nights)
    - acting hungry but not wanting to fill his tummy
    - acting calmer when held upright after feedings
    - lots of gas, both burps and toots (mylicon drops only sometimes helped)

His problems have been getting worse and worse; after a terrible uncomfortable weekend, I insisted that he see his ped today. I know that he is a sweet baby, but it has been masked by all his discomfort. I am so excited to start the meds and get to know the "real" Benny!

I totally agree with Becky. We had the same issues. One of mine was a silent refluxer and once we got a diagnosis the nights got so much better. Good luck. Reflux is so hard on everyone involved. Also a milk allergy could be another culprit.

:hug99: thank you all for your comments. I got to the doctor today and they were diagnosed with reflux .
She put them on Ranitidine and gave the ok to add a teaspoon of rice cereal for each ounce , starting out with just one spoon to check for allergies to the rice cereal.

I am so happy finally to feel that my little cuties will be able to get some rest. They are sleeping now and so far no throwing up. I have only given them one does so far so i am expecting for some for the first day or too but i have got my fingers crossed. :yahoo:

I'm glad your pedi was able to see you and figure out the problem. Hope your kiddos respond well to the meds and cereal! I remember those days of puking out mouth and nose and screaming... ug. not fun.

Hopefully you can all get some much needed rest. FWIW we had to work all the way up to adding 2tsp of cereal/ounce of formula to really notice a difference. Good luck. Reflux is hard on all involved.
