I am beside myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At the last 3 feedings both of my babies cried and screamed the whole time and I cried along with them. They are currently on Pepcid. My dd has had her medicine increased once and if I'm correct it needs to be adjusted to their weight every so often. She has progressivly gotten worse through the week and he I've noticed the last couple of days. I decided to change doctors and made an appointment with the new one for this evening (they are going to see them tonight at 7:30...thank you!!!!). They have never had a GI test done even tho I asked my doctor if she thought they should see one, she just prescribed the pepcid. Now it's worked some but not completely. Do I need to ask the doctor if they can see a GI specialist or should I ask they change the medicine to Prevacid instead? What are your thoughts?

    Thanks!

After going to my regular pediatrician for a few months to deal with my sons reflux, we switched to a GI specialist. I wish I had done it sooner. They are more knowledged in this area and were able to give my ds meds that the ped. wasn't. I would suggest that you do make an appointment with a specialist. I hope your babies start feeling better soon. I know it's hard to see them crying and in pain, but stay strong momma! :hug99:

You might want to see a GI specialist, but your pedi can also help (if he or she knows how!). The pedi we go to gave us the same advice as the GI specialist, so we didn't bother going back to the GI.

Most reflux medicines need to be weight adjusted, and you might have to remind your doctor to do this. I don't know much about Pepcid; most babies that I've heard of are on Zantac, Prevacid or Prilosec. You might want to ask to see a specialist in case there's a better medicine than Pepcid for your kids.

    Good luck!

After Zantac & Axid did not work for our guys, we saw a pedi GI who put them both on Prevacid. It was a miracle drug & worked instantly. When they weaned off it around 7-8 mos it was not too difficult either. Good luck, it is awful to see your poor babies suffer like that (I cried with mine too) :hug99:

If the meds were working fine before but you now see them acting up again, then chances are you need an increase in your dose. This happened with my dd except they never told me that I would have to change her dose as she gained weight so I was totally clueless about why she was getting so miserable again. I would call your ped again (if she used to respond fine to the meds) and go from there. GL and hang in there. I know how simply aweful it is to have screaming babies who are obviously in pain. It is heartbreaking!

We never saw a GI, but if I had it to do over, I would have. We never tried the Pepcid, but Prevacid did work the best of all of the ones we did try. Good luck, I know reflux is so frustrating. :love0028:

We went and saw the Ped GI. I felt like I wanted someone who knew exactly what I was going through. Our Ped recommended it. He was great. I would get on a different med if you can. We were first on Zantac and it didnt work and then we got on Prevacid and it worked like a charm in about 2 days although it took about 7 to take full effect. Also the Ped GI gave us the best advice that was to thicken the feeds with 2tsp of cereal/ounce of formula. This made the most dramatic difference in the vomitting which helped us not have too much pain.

Prevacid was a lifesaver for us. One of our older ones had 2 GI tests and several medications before we found how well Prevacid worked. Reflux for us was a nightmare. 3 of our 4 had it. Charlie had it the worst. He could not start whole milk til he was almost 2. Zantac didn't do a thing for him. Do your babies eat a lot then spit/throw up? The GI told us most babies with reflux never feel full (all the milk is going back up). Charlie ate every 1 1/2 for the first 6 months. We had to use Alimentum (not sure of the spelling) for a long time ($500 a month for just him formula). It worked though. Then we used some soy and lactose-free after he turned 1. Hope this helps!

Zantac didn't work for us, but prevacid worked wonders!
