Basically after 2oz. we have to force her to eat. Up until recently she downed 6oz. at a feeding without an issue! She has Reflux and has been on Zantac (Which I think is useless). We have had cereal in her bottle since she was about a month old to help with the reflux.

Recently she will not wat. I have tried everything. I have taken the cereal out of the bottle hoping she would be hungrier and wat more, but no that doesn't help. I have tried a different brand of formula in case for some crazy reason she didn't like the one we were using anymore. I switched to Dr. Brown's bottles. No change seems to make it better.

Get this though, the spitting up has mostly stopped. She still does it but nothing like before and about 1/16th of what her brother does. He is a spitting machine.

I think I need to go see the Ped tomorrow and get this dealt with, but it seems they are not helping. All we get is a prescription for a higher dose of Zantac and get told to try some ridiculously expensive formula.

I need to go in there with a plan and tell them what I want. I just have no clue what that is.

    Please help!

Does this sounds like a Reflux issue? What should I tell the Ped I want.

    Thanks ladies............ you all rock!

ARRRRRRgh, I just lost my big reply!

Ok. She sounds just like my babies at that age. It was so hard and frustrating! My days consisted of counting oz's and stressing about it all day. It was horrible! She can still be refluxing even though it is not coming all the way up. It can still be coming up in her esophagus and causing her a lot of pain.

Zantac did nothing for us. I would ask if you can try her on Prevacid. I would stay with the thickened feeds, as I think if you stop them, it will be even worse. Also ask if you can give some Mylanta in the mean time while the meds kick in. My babies were also put on Reglan, which *can* have some nasty side effects, although we never experienced any. It helps the stomach to contract faster, empty faster, so there is less to reflux.

I would also ask for a GI referral, if they are unwilling to help you. You are probably hearing things like "babies will eat when they are hungry, they won't starve themselves." Which, I believe, for a reflux baby, is completely false. They don't want to eat because it causes them pain.

Hang in there, I know exactly what you are going through. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. :hug99:

I had two reflux babies. One would spitup a lot, all the time and the other would just be miserable and spitup occasionally. To me it definitely sounds like reflux. Definitely get her to the pedi to work this out if the current meds are not working.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto. We tried Zantac and it did nothing to help them with the pain. Then we went to Prevacid and they did great on it. We also saw a Ped GI and the best advice we got was to add 2tsp of cereal per ounce of formula. This dramatically helped them as we were only adding 1tsp per the regular Ped. Also the Mylanta worked only for a short bit for us. Maybe a few days and then they got used to it. But it did help when we needed it as they were adjusting to the Prevacid. So maybe your Ped will give you a new script for Prevacid or something else, give the okay for the Mylanta, and up the total amount of cereal in the bottle. Hang in there. Reflux is hard on everyone involved. :hug99:

Tammy, I'm going through exactly what you are except mine haven't been diagnosed yet. I thought it was the formula which I changed 5 days ago but now newer symptoms are showing or are just more noticable to me. Everyone is thinking it's reflux which I am starting to thing so too. Mainly my little girl but could possibly be both babies. Anyway I have an appointment at 3:40 today. Let me know what your ped says and I'll let you know how it goes for me. :hug99:

    Good luck!!!

We changed formula a few times before the Prevacid (ended up with Nutramigen) and began Prevacid at 8 weeks and we saw results so quickly.

i agree with becky that you should see a specialist. marcella had reflux and our ped put her on mylanta, pepcid and had us add cereal to her bottle. but after about a week with her still being in pain, he said 'you need to see a pediatric GI'. the GI increased her dosages. our regular ped just didn't feel comfortable dealing with those dosages, but knew that she needed more. that might be what's going on with you and why you feel the zantac isn't working. she may need more, or a cocktail or mylanta/zantac.

the GIs objective was to get enough meds in her so it wouldn't be painful for her when it came back up. also the rice/oatmeal made it heavier, so it would stay down better. and we kept her upright after eating. which meant that for a few weeks, she slept in her swing, bouncy or carseat after the nighttime feedings. she is 4 yo now, outgrew it at about 6 months, and is doing perfectly fine. so, just remember, this is a phase and it's hard to get through, but you'll get through it!

Okay, went to see the ped today. They changed their formula to Alemintum and gave some prevacid...great news. But, Hayley is still screaming her head off after the prevacid 3 hours ago and her second bottle with the Alemintum. Is it too soon for us to see results? Is this still normal for her to cry until the formula/prevacid kicks in? How long should it take?

They told me 10 days which I think sucks. We did Alimentum before and the kids started refusing that as well. It tastes awful. I hope your kids like it.

I hope the prevacid works for you guys and my guys!
