My DD and DS both have reflux and have had cereal in their bottles since they were about a month old. They are 33 weekers. I am excited to start them on baby food but I am wondering when that will be. I am curious when others in the same situation put their twins on solids.

    Jen,

We waited until six months. It wasn't really related to reflux, I just didn't see a need to start any earlier. Until about six months it was a struggle to keep everything down for one of my girls, so I didn't want to run the risk that she'd take in less milk.

Mine were not really preemies, but my PED felt that early introduction of solids helps with reflux. He was right. Once they started solids, things got better fast. They are still not great, but we do not live in bibs. :)

I think each baby and case of reflux is different and a PED who is experienced can make an informed decision as to when to start solids.

We started ours at 5 months. Ana's spitting didn't change at all, but it still didn't bother her (just had to change her outfits and sheets a lot.. ew carrot spit up).

Mine were born at 33 weeks also. We started solids at 4 months old per ped. orders. DD has bad reflux and she is still the same as far as spitting up goes. I did notice they are sleeping longer stretches with the solids. I started with one meal about 4pm at 4 mo. old then I have just added a "brunch" at around 11am at 5.5 mo. old.

    ETA: tired mommy brain.

Mine were 32 weekers and we started at 4 months. We had already been putting cereal in their bottles.

We started ceral a little before 4 months corrected(our dr. had said we could go ahead earlier)I don't think it has had any affect on the reflux or there sleep but they eat it (esp DS2) and I was excited to give it to them to. We won't be starting veggies for another month or so thought, our doctor said to wait until there eating the cereal well for about a month before starting veggies.

Our occupational therepist said sometimes when preemies start fruits and veggies there reflux can get worse for awhile, I guess due to the natural acids and stuff in the food.

Mine were 36 weeks. Pedi had us start practicing with solids at a little over 4 months. Has cereal in bottle since 3 months. At 6 months the one with reflux is still trying to figure out the swallowing thing but getting better.
