At what age were you able to stop the reflux meds? I do not think we are ready any time soon, but I have a 2 months supply stockpiled and plan to use it all up. I see our PED in a few weeks and am wondering if I should get a prescription from her. (She doesnt know I have that much reserved)

So basically I want to know when you stopped giving them meds and how I will know it is time.

    TIA

At 6 months, one day I just did not give it to them but quickly realized they still needed it. Then again at 9 months I did not give it to them and they did not show any more reflux symptoms so that is when we stopped.

Tammy, we stopped about 10-11 months. They were switching to milk and I wanted to see if they could keep that down without the Zantac.

Good luck! I can't believe they are already over 8 months!!!!!! Where did the time go???

    Tammy,

We stopped at four months with one of my girls (she was on Zantac). She never spit up and seemed happy all the time so we gave it a try. My other daughter is still on compounded Prilosec and I'm not sure when we'll stop. I can still hear the reflux in her throat from time to time and I can tell she's choking back the spit up, so I think she's not ready to stop the medicine. But honestly, I don't know. I might just be too chicken to give it a try and then have her in pain again.

Good luck to you whenever you do decide to stop the meds!

I dont know............... I know time is going fast though............... maybe a little too fast for me some days.

Our Ped said we could do milk at 9 months as they are so big but honestly I have lots of formula here and think I will keep them on it for some time.

I am petrified to stop the meds. :)

Hi Tammy! I was so nervous to stop too, but we tried about a week before their 9 month appointment, we just stopped giving Ellie the Prevaicd. We figured it was good timing since we would know whether our experiment worked by the time we went to her appt. It's been about 3 weeks, and we haven't had any problems or flare ups yet - Yay!

Just las week we also switched her from soy back to milk based formula. She would previously break out in a horrible face rash, but so far, we are in the clear!

Ellie has had a big month!! Good Luck to you!

    14 WOW!

That is kind of what I am expecting from Thomas though. He ha dit so bad and I am sure he still does.

If I could I would kep them on Prevacid until high school graduation. I so do not want the puking to come back and the crying.

We stopped ours shortly after starting solids around 5-6 months. I do not think ours was one of the worst case sinerios.
