reflux and naps

yesterday, i decided that it was time to move the girls into their room for naps so that big brother can have free reign of the living space again (in other words, so that i can stop yelling at him as much for disrupting the babies sleeping in the bouncers and/or swings.

so for the last two days, whenever it was time for a nap, i would take the girls in their room, swaddle them, and put them in their crib. it seems to be working out so far, except...

i've noticed that both of them have been spitting up a little more today. since their reflux seemed to have been improving over the course of the last month, do you think it's because they're spending too much time sleeping horizontally?

i made sure that they were upright and burped for at least 20 minutes before i put them down. they've also been sleeping in their cribs at night just fine for weeks and months now. (they're 3 months old)

i really would like them to get used to sleeping in their room during the day, and prefer that i don't have to move the swing and bouncer in and out of their room throughout the day.

    what are your thoughts?

You can always roll up a towel or a blanket and put it under their mattress to create an incline if they sleep better on an incline.

Is the spit up bothering them? My understanding is that most babies have some form of reflux, it's just a matter of if it's painful to them or not. Mine went through a period where they were spitting up a bit more but it wasn't bothering them (their reflux is controlled with medication) but then it stopped.
I guess if it's not bothering them, I wouldn't worry about it. Basically it's just a laundry problem. But if they are crying, screaming, etc. you can try elevating the crib or what we did for transition is to put the bouncy chair in the crib so they got used to being in there but were still elevated.

My DD with reflux slept in her bouncey or car seat for a least 4 months. She was the opposite, okay during the day but needed to be up-right during the night. I put her car seat in her crib. It didn't create any bad habits...the day I started putting her down in her crib officially she was fine. GL!

Yes. I would sleep them on an incline in the crib as Bex indicated above. You can also put books under the crib legs in the back and help them. Ours slept on an incline until they were at least 4 months old and starting to roll all over the place.

This is a common misconception. Not only can you have lots of spit up, they can have silent reflux as well. And there can be damage done to the esophagus from the acid reflux regardless of the type.

Actually, that's what I meant by bothering them. Both of mine started out with silent reflux (so no spit up) but they screamed and cried all the time and pulled from the bottle, arched, etc. We were told by our specialist that a certain amount of spit up is normal (because the valve between the stomach and esophagus needs to develop in newborns) and not concerning if it is not bothering them by burning. I was just trying to clarify if they also had silent reflux or not.
