Record of Immunizations

Yesterday my babies had thier 2 month shots and I was not given anything that said what they were given. I know what they were given based on discussion with the Doctor and Nurse, but nothing official was given to me.

I know when I was little my Doctor gave my mother an Immunization card and the Doctor filled it out each time I received shots.

I also remember that I need proof of tetanus so that my daughter can get her ears pierced.

My question is: Does your pediatrician give you a record of immunizations after each appointment?

Yes, we keep their immunization cards with us at all times. They fill out something on their records and also fill out our cards each time. They also hand us literature on each vaccine they get. I would call and ask for you own card!

I was so stressed over being alone with 2 possibly fussy babies, I was not thinking straight at all. I think I will call now!

    Thanks

I understand completely!!! At the boys 2 mos appt, I had a "first" experience...I was nursing and had not yet experienced any leaking probs as they nursed at the same time ALL the time (or so it seemed). When Isaac screamed at first shot, I apparently "let down" and was a mess!!! I was SO EMBARRASSED to leave the office...DH was cracking up and kept assuring me that who gives a crap...easier said than done!

I got the official CDC sheets at our 2 week appointment. And at every appointment they tell me what they're getting (there is also a schedule in each room) and I need to sign for each immunization in their charts. We're going to change the schedule slightly due to our move back to Europe but I've already discussed that with the doctor.

ETA: I am pro-vaxxing however you do not need to vax whenever the doc wants you to and/or you can delay and discuss a schedule that better works for you and your family. We're following the ped's schedule, but again, you have a choice as a parent.

I signed to give them permission to give the shots, I just assumed I would be given a copy. Then once the crying started, I wasn't thinking about anything other than making my babies feel better!

Yup - mine gave me a little book - looks like a checkbook - for each baby.

I called and they said they would put something at reception for me to pick up. It is just a print out! Nothing ongoing. Based on what I am reading this makes no sense.

They are a great practice and very well known in the area. I am unsure why no booklet!

We get a print out at each "shot" appointent that has everything on it. It's just a piece of paper but it shows when the had each of the shots and when the next ones are due. It works well for us, because it is all on one paper.

Our doctor gave us booklets to keep for each of them, it includes their immunizations, heights, weights, percentiles, and notes from the visit... introduce cereal, work on tummy time, etc. We also get an information sheet with each vaccination.

We have the blue book, too. In addition to that, when the kids were in daycare, the doc would give us a printout for the school.

We got a little yellow card for each of them that lists all the immunizations available I guess, and they fill in the dates that they got them ... its only for shots, we get a seperate paper with weights/lengths/% etc ...

Maybe at your next visit just tell your doc you want a record at each appt ... I don't think that is asking too much.

I think the cards that a lot of parents get probably are for more informational purposes. If you need proof of immunization, I doubt it would work. I mean with mine, I could write on it whenever I wanted. So I'm guessing its more for my records that some sort of "real" document.

My doctor's office prints a new immunization record any time the boys receive a vaccination, even if it's just a flu shot.
