Recommendations for gate at top of the stairs?

Any suggestions on a gate that works well at the top of the stairs? It is for a high traffic area so it needs to be able to open and close fairly easily. Also, the location where it will be installed is uneven (due to baseboards). I found this one, but it doesn't look like it's made for a high traffic area. We bought the Evenflo Top of the Stair Gate, but it doesn't fit due to the uneven baseboards.

I have this one that I bought from walmart online for $60 including tax and shipping. It is awesome! Very easy to use. We had 3 gates prior to this one and I ripped them all out because they all said "one handed operation" and they actually took two hands to open and close. I never have two hands free! This gate truly can be opened and closed with one hand. It has a red/green indictor that tells you when the gate is fully locked. If you swing it shut, it locks on its own. Also, it has a built-in motion-detector nightlight, which is very useful when it's dark. This gate is totally worth the money - we just bought a second one for our basement stairs.

We haven't gotten one yet, but you definitely want to make sure you get one that is wall mounted, not just pressure mounted. You don't want anyone to be able to push it over and fall down the stairs. We'll probably get something like this.

This is the one we have at the top AND bottom of our stairs. I love it and it has worked well for 1 1/2 years.

Our house is old- over 100 years old so it mounted to the walls easily. Everything is uneven in our house!

    HTH!!

Yes, you definitely need one that is wall mounted (with screw nailed in the wall). I hired a professional baby proof handyman and he put in an extra piece of board to solve the uneven baseboard problem. The gate he recommended is the Kidco, looks like this one:

This handyman only charged me one hour of labor of $60 including 3 gates (with the extra piece of board), all the electric outlets (he replaced with sliding plates), and drawer latches. I think he does this kind of work everyday so he was very quick. The rest of the payment goes to the costs of the products which are similar to online prices.

We have this one, too (and I think it was recommended by someone here, so maybe it was RRTwins!) and I am very happy with it. I love the motion detector light. I also realzied that little light is a real help if we lose power, too, which has happened a couple of times lately. It's definitely a great gate overall.

For those of you what purchased the Walmart gate, do you know if it will mount on uneven surfaces (i.e. we have a baseboard)?
