Really bad news at Peri appointment today

My appointment didn't go well today. There are several issues going on. The first
being, they keep finding markers for Downs with baby A, baby B looks
completely normal which is confusing because since they are identical they
should be the same. So far they've found fluid in the kidneys, shorter femur length and now a calcification in the heart. The NT scan and blood work were normal. Anyway the chances for Downs is now 1:2000 which is
still a reassuring number and not enough for the Dr to insist we have
an amnio done. He said we could get one if we want but we have to decide
ASAP. The second problem is the babies are at stage 1 Twin To Twin
Transfusion. There is a 33% growth difference which was only 17% last week.
It's not at the point where treatment is needed yet. And it's only A that shows fuild and growth problems. The third problem is
the possiblity of a placenta problem and that they are only able to see 2
vessels in baby A's cord. That might also contribute to the growth
difference. The Dr thinks #3 is likely the cause of all the problems
but it could be a combo of #2 and #3. There is no indication for treatment
for anything yet. We're going to MGH on Friday for a fetal ehco cardiogram
on baby A. If it is TTTS we'll have to go to Hasbro Childrens hospital for
laser surgery. However, my cervix thinned back to 1.3 cm and that might
    exclude me from surgery.

Things are looking really bleak. I keep asking myself why is this happening. We had such a hard time getting pregnant in the first place, it's just been one thing after another. What sticks the most is not knowing how things will work out. No one can tell me the chances of survival for the babies.

Hang in there and take it one step at a time. It sounds as though you are in good hands and being close to Boston ( I see from Sudbury) you have some of the best hospitals and doctors available to you.

As a mother of a 2 vessel baby, I know what you are going thru. They thought I had TTTS too but it was only the 2 vessel cord symtoms. Hopefully the cord problem turns out to the only problem. My girls are identical and were born at 34 weeks 1 day my 2 vessel baby(Jessy) weighted 2lbs 13 oz and was in the Nicu for 21 days, my normal baby(Jazz) weighted 4lbs9oz and was in the nicu for 17 days. *hugs*

My prayers are with you! My advice would be to call Dr. De Lia first...Im sure someone here can pass along his info as long as go to the TTTS site for advice and support. Put yourself on bedrest, left side as much as possible. Drink 3 Boost or Ensure High Protiens a day, sip them throughout, they arent the best tasting but are better if they are really really cold. If you qualify for WIC then have your doctor write a presciption for Boost, they will pay for all of it that way.
We never had a 2 vessel cord but we did have severe IUGR caused from cord placement, basically 2 of our kids had their cords off to the side instead of where it should have been. They were quiet a bit smaller than they should have been but are healthy today.

I hope things get better for you :hug99:

My girls also both had bad cord placement but it really only affected Jessy

I hope all the concerns can get resolved soon... Hang in there. Remember that a few more weeks can make all the difference. Even at 24 weeks things look so much better for survival. Hopefully your babies will level out with growth discordance or will improve so that you can avoid any procedures and hang stable for a few more weeks at least. :hug99: All the stress probably doesn't help things...maybe calming music would help so you can get some rest...or something to take your mind off things so you don't just worry all day. My prayers are with you and your little ones.

I feel so bad for you.. I can't even imagine how freighting all that must be. My only advise it to seek the support of those closest to you so that they can keep you thinking positive. Also remember that babies have strong souls and that gets them through in ways that medicine can't explain. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Many hugs to you, and hang in there.

Just wanted to send a :hug99: your way. I'm so sorry you are having to go thru so much. One of my girls had a 2 vessel cord as well, so I can relate to how scarey that is. I also had some serious cervix issues and delivered my twins at 27 weeks. Hang in there, I'm sure things will start to look up soon!!
