Really bad diapers...should I be with-holding milk?

I posted a few days ago about DD vomiting all over the carpet and her rocking horse. Luckily that was a one-time event!

However she has been having really bad diapers...not liquid diarrhea (Sorry), but really yellow and pasty. She has developed a screaming red diaper rash, even with changing them immediately. We are resorting to our heavy-duty diaper cream to combat the rash.

But, my question is: should I be limiting/withholding milk or certain foods right now?? I haven't spoken with the ped as it is the weekend, but I seem to remember the last time DD was throwing up, she said we should continue to offer whatever she normally eats. The BRAT diet was no longer the way to go...

I am not worried about dehydration as she is drinking her milk (this is my concern...is this adding to her misery??) and some Pedialyte (she doesn't really drink water very well, so I wanted to ensure she was getting enough fluids).

Thanks for the any help, ladies...I would hate to think I am stupidly making the situation worse for her!

I'm sorry about the diaper rash and icky bm's!!! I would stick with the brat diet for a day or two to see if it helps. Is she teething? That might be it as well. GL I hope she's feeling better soon!

 I also second the possibility of teething. My kids usually have yucky diapers when teething. I would also stick to the BRAT diet right now and keep offering the Pedialyte. Hope she feels better soon.

We noticed our girls were lactose intollerant when they started getting sick after milk. Then, they would have the yucky (theirs was liquid BM) diapers. We didn't realize it was milk though until after they ate some ice cream... Oh, btw, they didn't start showing signs of lactose intllerance until around 18-20 months of age. I left them on Formula until 16 months, but it was milk based as well...

I would try to elminate the milk, or, subsitute with Lactaid or Soy for a few days and see if it gets better... If it does, then you've got your answer.

If you go BRAT and she gets better, gradually add in only one new food at a time and give it a week or so before adding anything else, so you KNOW what it is that's bothering her.

After my girls got over the stomach flu, they had bad poops for a couple days, I think it's just their systems readjusting.
I diluted their milk a little bit for the first couple days and then went back to the full stuff. I did 6oz milk mixed with 2oz water, I also slathered on the Sudocreme diaper cream and that seemed to help. It did get better, hang in there. Stomach flu sucks!!

I still bf and haven't actually had any luck in adding in cow's milk for them to drink or even in mac & cheese to their diet... seems that every time I try it they get nasty diapers... so I feel your pain.

when it got real bad back the first time I tried it more at around 15 mo. one doctor said that maybe the BRAT diet wasn't working for us, I was attempting to do that... he suggested adding additional proteins instead... I think a lot of the BRAT diet is carbs. so maybe think about that and if the BRAT diet isn't working look at what else they are eating and go back to what is "normal" for them...

I don't know necessarily if mine have a lactose intolerance, but I just try to avoid milk stuff... good luck, its no fun!
