One of my boys used to have this happen on a fairly regular basis. What finally helped him was plain old Vaseline and Corn Starch. I had been told about this combo for quite a while, but put it off because I really didn't think it would work better than the stuff that is designed specifically for diaper rash. However, it has been a life saver. Now, if one of my boys starts to get red I just put the Vaseline on him and it never progresses to the raw and bleeding stage. (the Corn Starch helps make the liquid stuff not so runny, so it's great when they have loose stools or a bad case of diarrhea)

    HTH!

If the rash is caused by yeast, the normal rash stuff won't work. Try an anti-fungal...something for a vaginal yeast infection. The ped can also prescribe Nystatin, which always worked for us.

Triple antibiotic cream for the open areas and then baby powder to keep things dry. My pedi recommended this. Be sure to clean the area with alcohol free wipes, I use a wash cloth sometimes. Make sure the area is really dry before rediapering. I bought one of those battery operated handheld fans to make go quicker.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is soaking in a baking soda bath (this was recommended by another TS mom and it worked!). I fill the bathroom sink 1/2 way throw in some baking soda and let them soak for 3-5 minutes.

Another idea that worked for me is to use a hair blower to dry the area before putting on a new diaper.

    Good luck :)

I'm another FIRM BELIEVER in the corn starch method! I use it alone... or in combination with Desitin -- haven't ever tried it with vaseline but I'm sure it'd be great -- whenever I see lil' bums starting to even get slightly red.. I pour some cornstarch in and viola... it's pretty much back to normal within 1-2 diaper changes. seriously.

The twins both have extremely sensitive skin and I will also 2nd the use of plain ol regular kitchen corn starch.

My dr told me to get the antifungal foot cream. If it isn't yeast that will work

Yes, as a matter of fact, yesterday DS went to dr.. and his rash was caused by yeast. He told us get an over the counter anti-fungal...like Lotramin AF. We bought the generic and it cleared it up in one application!!

Mix Mylanta and aquaphor together and spread on their bottom. My DD's bottom was bleeding yesterday because she has diahhrea so badly. I mixed some of it up yesterday and it was so much better this morning.

My boys have never really had a bad diaper rash, but whenever they start to get something I always use aqua-phore. You can pick it up right at wal-mart. It works great!

I was skeptical of this when I first heard it, but I was willing to try anything and it really worked! Good luck.
