Both my babies have really bad diaper rashes, DS seems to have it worse. We've used Butt Paste, some Huggies Diaper rash cream and that stuff that starts with a D (can't remember the name) nothing seems to work.

    does anyone have any suggestions?

maybe call their pedi. Could need an rx. Hope it clears up soon.

I would try triple paste - its fairly expenisve but I found it was a last ditch resort when DD practically had open sores on her bum from teething...

Ditto on calling the pedi. Butt Paste works well on regular diaper rashes, but when my twins get rashes from diarrhea, the only thing that helps is the prescription Questran. Poor little babies, that is so painful.

I agree with pp's... and give them lots of 'air time' without their diapers. :hug99:

Ditto to this. My kids get AWFUL diaper rash when they are on antibiotics (from the diarrhea). What worked for us was:

    1. No more wipes. Even though it's gross, we would use a warm washcloth (for poppy diapers). A dry washcloth for just wet ones.

    2. Make sure the area is COMPLETELY dry before applying the lotion. If it's wet at all, it traps the moisture in. I would sit there with there legs up and blow down there. It would always make them giggle. And then I would blot with a dry washcloth.

    3. Triple Paste. It's like diaper rash gold. Lather it up good!

    4. Repeat.

It would usually clear it up well in a day or two.

Good luck! I hate diaper rashes. I hate hearing them cry when I'm trying to clean their bums. Breaks my heart!

I agree with the triple paste! Its wonderful! I just took my DD to the Dr last week for what I thought was a diaper rash that would not go away with anything, and it turns out it was a yeast infection (apparently pretty common in babies). The pedi prescribed Nystatin and it cleared up by the next day. If it doesn't go away soon, I would call your pedi. Diaper rashes are miserable!

Thanks everyone for the wonderful tips. I did e-mail their doctor, we'll probably bring them in tomorrow. :)

For really bad rashes, we do lots of "no-diaper" time. Sometimes a warm water bath with baking soda can be soothing, even multiple times a day if it seems especially painful.

If the rash won't go away, it could be yeast - your pedi can give you a prescription, but you can also use regular Lotrimin (the generic indegredient is clortrimezole), and that should help too until you get some Nystatin. Our pedi recommended original (not creamy) desitin, because it had cod liver oil in it, which was good for their skin. It seems to work!

When the rash starts to dry up and go away, we use some aquaphor to get things back to normal.

Can you tell I've been through this a time or two?

Good luck - i hate diaper rashes.

Desitin, that's it! couldn't remember the name. Yeah we've been using that too. No diaper time sounds good, but don't trust that DS won't pee all over himself. He's done that before. :)

    thank you for the tips.

I tried a rton of different things and then switched to original desitin because it has 40% zinc oxide while most other things have 10%. As soon as I started using it, it started to clear up. But it has to be the original. I have the clear as well, but that is totally different. But def. get it checked by the ped- could be a yeast infection.

What I've been doing is wiping area w/ CA Baby diaper wash and trying not to use wipes
    fan w/ diaper until dry
apply a THICK layer of desitin everywhere

I didn't have much luck with Butt Paste or Tripple Paste. A & D worked really well for us and its not to expensive. My mom also purchased stuff from California Baby which is suppose to work really well but we haven't had to use it yet. I believe the california baby diaper rash cream is $10 and the diaper wash is $10 as well.

the no diaper time is key. yeah, he'll probably pee, but if you lay him on a big towel it shouldn't be too bad. also when my lo's get it bad, i use the blow dryer on warm to make sure it's super dry down there. they seem to love the noise, actually!

take your babies to the dr....now!

if it's really bad like, you want to go to the ER bad because your kids are in so much pain it is probably a fungal infection. i sat the er for 5 hours about a month ago because dd was in so much pain...

she had a fungal infection that needed a perscription to fix it...and she has gotten it once since than so thank god i had the special cream.
