Just thought I would sort of re-address this topic.

Our Twins were not due until Nov 11th, but decided to get me home early from Iraq and be born July 28th.

Anyways, I had read on here before about "stacking" coupons at Babies R Us. We are going on a big shopping excursion next weekend for their Labor Day Sales. I went last weekend and talked to a Manager...this is what she told me.

    1. Call 1800toysrus and have them send you your 10% "Finish Your Registry Discont Coupon". I had to call because they can WAY early of their Due Date (Coupon is in the mail)

    That's 10% Off so far

    2. Apply for Babies R Us Credit Card (Another 10% Discount). We said we are paying cash, but the Manager said as long as I apply for card and put like 5 bucks on it, I will get the discount.

    That's 20% Off so far

    3. THEN...we have our 10% discount on certain "multiple items"...Cribs, Car Seats, etc.

That's 30% Off on a lot of the stuff

    4. And then...unless the coupon that we get in the mail specifically says otherwise, we can stack those on top as well. (I just got my booklet in the mail and there are all sorts of 10% - 15% Off coupons on about every type of item you can want or need

So...I am looking at about 30 to maybe 45% Off on some/a lot of items.

Not bad...I figured it would be some "good refresher info." for some of you NEW Expecting Moms

    Hi Sean!!

So nice to see you back in the Expecting Forum. Hope Marlee and Merrick are doing well.
Good luck with your shopping expedition!!

But I have to poo poo BRU a little bit . . .

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed overall in BRU. I expected to LOVE it but I'm not that impressed. First of all, its hard to find certain items in the stores and the size and quality of the stores are so inconsistent. Many of the big ticket items I want to buy are available online only and you cant stack coupons online the way you can in the store, which means missing out on those big savings (and they dont do the multiples discount online). Then if you're lucky to have one of the really great coupons for like carseats or something, I have found that the ones I want are always out of stock when those coupons roll around so I can't end up taking advantage of the coupons online and the items are not available in store. I found it to be a big runaround to be honest.

My biggest gripe though is with many of their prices. First of all, they don't do free shipping most of the time, which I find really annoying. Then unless you wait for one of their big sales, I have pretty much found most stuff for much cheaper on other sites (babyage.com, babyearth.com, etc), and these sites also do free shipping, which means they are usually at least 20% below BRU (and they all participate in the EBATES cash back program, which BRU doesn't do). I now only bother with BRU when they have big sales or coupons, or when its something that I can't find elsewhere.

So really I would just encourage everyone (especially online shoppers) to look shop around a bit for bargains and free shipping because there are loads of them out there. BRU is not the only game in town.

Oh yeah...I don't shop anywhere unless I know I am getting the best deal. I know the car seats and pack n plays we want are 10 bucks cheaper at wal-mart as well as a couple of other things, but my 30% discount or more (for the items in the store I will be getting)will more than make up for that.

If they do not have something in the store, then I can order it and still get the discount if it is a normal item they carry, but just happen to be out of it. Not sure if all of your Babies R Us do that, but I made sure to ask the manager of my store.

The 2 cribs we want (Babi Italia...based off of great consumer reports ratings) are 429.00 a piece there and we will save about 40% off that cost.

They did have a huge sale on Summer Clothes when I was there last weekend. They had them all discounted by a lot, then you buy one at the discounted price and get one of the same discounted value for a buck. We shop at a lot of consignment stores, but couldn't pass up on the deal. We had 230 bucks worth of discounted clothes and shoes in the cart and saved another 90 bucks for the "get the other for a buck" sale part.

True...I agree 100% there are some items there that I just would not buy unless for the big discount or coupons. I like to spend money, but doesn't mean I am a fool with money...I'm not a huge fan of really any store, but only a "temporary fan" of the store giving me the best deal.

We will see how it goes. I am making sure I buy almost everything in this shopping trip.(The rest will be on-line like you say) The main reason is to get the 10% "finish your registry" and the one time 10% for applying for the credit card. 20% off in that store (the I will other discounts) pretty much beats all of the prices for the same items I have seen at the others...even Target and Wal-Mart.

    I'll post the results afterwards...

Oh...and yes...THANKS...they are doing BEYOND great. I am really amazed at how well they are doing for being born so young. A few bumps here and there, but making great progress and more smooth rides than bumps for the most part

I was told by a BRU rep in the store that if I were to get two high chairs, which qualify for the twin 10% off, that I could not combine another coupon with it, or if it was on sale, then I couldnt get the addition twin discount on top of the sale discount...Im gonna call them tomorrow because I have two 15% off coupons that I would love to use along with the twin 10% off.

I would go with what the manager says---get her/his name too.

We called and a manager said yes we can use the 10% twin discount and a 15% carseat coupon (we upgraded to boosters). When we go there the manager on duty said no---but after talking to the same one we talked to they OK'd it. She said they've been getting a lot of parents w/ siblings close in age using the twin discount so they are being more careful.

That said TRU said no way to stackign coupons.

Previously we have had great luck w/ stacking coupon at BRU. We purchases our double stroller, carseats, and high chairs there for better deals than we could get anywhere else.

    Have fun shopping!!!!

I was always told that I couldn't stack % off coupons with other % off coupons. They will let me stack $ off coupons with % off coupons though. Maybe it's different store to store. They also wouldn't honor the twin discount for a double stroller even though the website said I could...

I've been able to stack and use the twin discount in different ways, all based on the cashier at the register. If it's not something I need right away I tell them I don't want it then and go back on a different day and try a different cashier.
