I can't tell if apples are something they can eat. They seem to chew them up but I don't think they can get them completely mashed. They each have like one molar so I was just wondering when everyone started giving them.

I guess about 2 or 3 months ago. I peel the apple and cut into wedges and they eat them up. They really love apples. They have top and bottom molars already though..

I would cut up apples ( and take off the skin) around 12 months for my two. They started eating pieces of them, meaning me giving them a slice and them biting them, around 18-20 months. They love apples.

I'm not sure that molars really matter...you know those kiddos have strong gums and pretty much moosh anything with them. (Jonas cut his molars about a month ago and L followed two weeks later)

I started giving raw apples probably about 2 months ago. I peel and cut up into little chunks and we're starting to cut into wedges now. I figured if they could handle toast, waffles, cereals, pizza crust, raisins(which I was very scared to give but my daycare started so I figured it was okay), etc, that raw apples were okay.

AT 14 months we just started apples. They do not have their molars; however, Jack has a mouthful of teeth and Lily has 6. THEY LOVE the apples and I cannot leave them out in our fruit bowl because Lily constantly begs for them. I just skin them and give them little pieces. I have not gotten brave enough to give them a slice yet. I will say, it takes them FOREVER to eat just half of an apple.

I think mine were about 18 months before they stopped chocking when we gave them apples. Our biggest problem is they shove the whole thing in their mouths then there is no room to chew it up... <_<

My DS is 20 mo. old and I still don't give them to him only because of a very scary situation at the babysitter. My DS was 14 mo. old and only had 2 bottom teeth and the freakin' $#*& babysitter gave him raw apples. Won't go into details but come on how stupid of her~!

Mine love raw apples and have for a while now. around 10 months I was shredding them with the cheese shredder. Now at 12 months, I just cut them into bite sized pieces.

I started around 14 months. My DDs love apples and I have the same problem as ahmerl - I can't leave the apples out or else Viv will beg for them. If I peel and chop up into bite sized pieces they will chew and swallow about 1/4 of the apple between the two of them. I have started giving them peeled slices (1/8 or 1/4 of an apple each) and they look like little chipmunks. They gnaw through the apple slice and swallow some bits but usually spit out more than they swallow. So far they've been able to handle the texture.

We just started with tiny, peeled, bits. They love them!

If you give them large chunks with no peel, they can start gnawing on them whenever they want. (I think that's less of a choking hazard than giving them small pieces, unless the pieces are so tiny that they can swallow them whole.)

I didn't give raw apples to my kids until they were at least 2, just because it didn't occur to me (we rarely have apples in the house), but we had them occasionally at a friend's house and they seemed to like them.

Our two LOVE apples and always have done - at first we gave it to them grated fine in a fruit mesh. Then we used to give them WHOLE peeled apples as these are safer than slices and chunks. They've been eating apples any old how since they were about 16 months.

The first food that my babies didn't flat-out reject was apple slices! We gave them big apple slices to teethe on, and they'd gum off little bits. Now, I cut bite-size pieces for DD (DS doesn't like them anymore). No molars here.

I've heard it is less of a choking hazard to give them the whole apple, they can bite off tiny bits that they can handle, if you give pieces they might try to just swallow. I started this around a year. They love them! It takes them forever to eat them so when they are really anxious to eat and them meal isn't ready yet I let them get in their high chairs and have an apple. They happily munch while I finish cooking in peace :D (I do peel them BTW)
