Sorry if tmi, but I've had some rawness and itching on I guess what I would call the "upper part of the lips" and right in between. Does anyone else have this and what do you do for it? Is it from my pelvis spreading already? It's hard to describe, but it's almost like I feel like I'm being stretched there, so that my "lips" don't even come together quite like they should. This happened with my last pregnancy but not my first, but I didn't get a chance to talk to my doctor about it. And, no, I don't have an std or anything like that...I know it's pregnancy related. My pelvis itself doesn't hurt unless I press on it.

Poor you! That sounds terrible!!! Have not had that but I'd ask the doc about it for sure. I hope they can give you something, I think raw and itching is even worse than pain! [IMG]

i had something simialar with my second and third child too, but not with my first. i will probably have it again with my twins. it started when i started getting bigger and your hips spread. i have stretch marks down there and they can hurt if you scratch it. i believe that it may be just from the pregnancy too. that is the only time i had that happen. it's probably your body preparing itself for delivery, your baby does have to pass that way--lol. after the first delivery it will probably do it again. i know mine did.
    lots of love!

I am going to ask my doctor about the same exact thing at my appointment this week, it is almost unbearable.

    Heya sweetie,

Is there a chance it could be "thrush". I once got it so bad that I ended up swollen and red raw like that. A quick trip to the pharmacy for some cream took care of it in two days or so.

Hope you feel better soon !

Could it be a yeast infection?? I know they are common during pregnancy. That would be something really easy to take care of.
I hope you find out and are more comfortable soon.

I was going to say a yeast infection........I would call the doctor and have them take a look and prescribe something....being pregnant is no time to mess around with something like this.

It's not that bad really...yet. I don't think it's a yeast infection as it's at the very top, and there's no strange discharge, etc. It's more like my skin is just overly stretched and sensitive there. I'll mention it to the doctor next Thursday.

I wonder if it could be a yeast infection, too. I had a horrible yeast infection in the very early stages of this pregnancy and didn't have any discharge. You could also be experiencing varicose veins in your vulva area (the excess pooling of blood could be causing the tightness of skin). Personally, I have noticed that that area has been feeling quite "swollen" lately and think it could be varicose veins. I will be checking with my doctor on Wednesday when I see him. Oh the joys of twin pregnancy. I hope you can find some relief.

I was thinking yeast infection but I also remember the itching from the stretching of the pelvic bones. I had that with I and M. Vagisal helped the itching stop.

I had that with this pregnancy; I talked to my OB about it and he examined me. I thought it was a yeast infection, although none of the itching was inside - just where you said. He diagnosed this:
    http://www.niams.nih.gov/hi/topics/lichen/lichen.htm

and said it probably started because of the extra moisture caused by the pregnancy. The info sheet he gave me basically said it's an itch made worse by scratching and a vicious cycle. He told me get a cortizone cream, like one made by Monistat (not yeast infection stuff, just a "vag itch" cream) and use it.

    It's gone now.

    Hi Melissa,

I hope you're feeling better now - one thing I'd like to recommend is A&D ointment - LOL a multipurpose product since you can use it for babies too [IMG] - I generally had discomfort from wearing pads when getting my period in the past and my gyn suggested putting that on whenever I felt "discomfort" down there.

I have another great cream (a prescribed medication) - it is AWESOME for alleviating vaginal discomfort and itchiness - however, I haven't had major problems yet so I haven't had to use it - I'm not sure if that one is safe to use during pregnancy. I can tell you the name if you want to ask your doctor about it.

I almost forgot to update this. The doctor looked at things yesterday and there's no infection. He said most likely it's just from extra wetness down there...it just irritates the skin. And maybe I have more sensitive skin than others? He recommended powder to help keep things dry. I guess the A&D would help too, but then you have to wear a pantyliner, right? And then maybe it would make it worse. It's not tooooo bad really. I think I tend to leak a little urine here and there and that just irritates things too. I'll try some things and see what works best.
