DS has a rash under his neck, well actually it is just a bright red patch under his chin in the fold of his chubby little neck. It has been there for a while because I thought it was just from drool or spit-up so I was just cleaning it every night in the bath and putting Aquaphore on it. It seems to be bothering him now because he keeps pulling at it and I don't think it is going to clear up. What could it be and what should I use on it? Do I need to call the Ped?

when mine got like that I used plain A&D ointment (yellow and white tube) - always worked wonders! Also works wonders on the scratches they inflict upon themselves...

Mine both had a rash under their chins at that age from all the drool/teething. Ped suggested using athlete foot cream on it and it cleared up in a few days (fungal infections from all the drool). Just a little dap in the morning and in the evening. It's totally not harmful but if you're concerned...called your ped. Also to keep them in bibs to soak up all the drool/moisture until they stop drooling so much. After it cleared up, she suggested diaper rash cream to use as a barrier to keep the saliva off which has worked great...haven't had a rash there since.

That's very good advice! I was going to suggest a dab of athlete's foot cream with a light coating of diaper rash cream. After it heals make sure you clean that little fold with a wipe at every diaper change and apply a light coat of diaper rash cream. I never had luck with bibs, mine always tear at them like wild animals.

Diaper cream here too. I used the Desitin clear.

My daughter had that too... our doc. recommended nystatin powder (which is another anti-fungal). Cleared it up in one day!

We sprinkled baby powder on the neck, but only the cornstarch kind.
