ok so my 2 almost 9 monthers are in the process of teething. no teeth yet and no crawlign yet! but anyways, one of my little dudes has a bad diaper rash that has now crept up his stomach and chest. His diaper area is very red and then up his chest are many tiny little dots that are almost bubble/ pimple like. This happened about a week ago and the dr. said it was probably a food allergy because i had given them plums for the first time. However, i have not introduced anything new today. Is this just part of diaper rash? could it be a yeast rash? part of teething? milk allergy? (we are in the process of switching from neosure to similac sensitive. we are now mixing half of each.

also, when they take their bottles they always get a rash around their face that then disappears after they are done taking their bottles. has this happened to anyone else? this has been an ongoing thing... even when we were just giving them neosure.
thanks so much for all of your help :) this is such a great site!!!!!!

yikes! i don't know if that is just diaper rash or something else. did you recently switch brands of diapers? different detergent, bathsoap, diaper cream, wipes? i think i would definitely have the pedi look at it if it is creeping up his belly, and it sounds painful to boot..

as far as the redness around the mouth when feeding, what type of nipples do you use? latex or silicone? i have a latex allergy and i get a red rash when i am exposed to it.. just a thought.

i don't know about the milk allergy thing either, DD had a milk allergy, but her symptoms were mucosy stools (gross, sorry) and eczema on her torso. it did clear up when i switched her to alimentium. but neosure and similac sensitive are both milk based, although the sensitive is lactose free...

sorry, after reading this over it doesn't look like i was much help... good luck and i hope everything clears up ASAP!

I would vote for getting it checked again if it's spreading. It could be a yeast rash or a reaction to something, either way I would ask the doctor.

I think i would get it checked too, but i wonder if its a heat rash? Are they getting really warm? On their tummies a lot?

The rash on the face sounds like an allergy to the nipples. I get contact dermatitis (a rash) from latex. Or if the milk is too warm in the bottle it could cause redness around the mouth, but probably not a rash.

I hope you can get it figured out!

It kind of sounds yeasty, although I have never had one spread up that far. Hmmm. Have you tried a cream for yeast? Lotrimin or Monistat? I would try that and if it doesn't rapidly improve, I would see the ped for sure.

I agree with everyone else! It sounds like more than a diaper rash. I actually just commented on someone elses post that Van had a nasty diaper rash and I thought it might be a yeast infection so I put an athlete's foot cream on it (it's got some active ingredient that kills fungus). That seemed to help. I would try some sort of yeast cream and call your pediatrician if it doesn't get better! Good luck! Diaper rashes are tough and they can be so painful!

Thanks to all! My MIL came over yesterday and she did not seemed worried. She said maybe it was a heat rash. He is working on crawling so he is on his tummy a lot. He was not at all in pain and was acting and eating fine. It got better on its own as the day progressed and Luke woke up this morning and it was gone! Not sure what it is! He had it once before and at first the burse thought it was chicken pox but then they said it was probably a food allergy of some sorts. However, I did not feed them anything different yesterday. Its a mystery rash and I guess I will leave it at that!
