We've been working on potty training for about the past month. About two weeks ago Annelise developed a rash on her buttocks. It almost looked like the eczema spots she sometimes got when she was an infant. I can't figure out why she would get a rash while potty training. She never sits in wet or dirty training pants. We change immediately after the accident. I've treated it with diaper cream and hydrocortisone (sp) cream. It will look better for a day or two and then get red again. It doesn't seem to bother her. Any thoughts about what this might be? We haven't changed any laundry detergent or anything.

Beth, I am having the same problem with my two. My son looks like he has eczema all over his butt. The only thing I can think of is they sweat sitting there...so I have been putting some baby powder on the potty seat and rubbing their bums with petroleum jelly (a light coating) to rub it in, so it does not feel uncomfortable with the underwear. Plus, I've been giving them naked time. Not sure if this is the right course of action but it seems to help for a little bit and then it comes back.

    WE HAVE IT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is too weird! Never had a diaper rash the entire time in diapers and now that they've been trained for six months they have a TERRIBLE rash that is bleeding and I had to take them into the ER! What is going on?!

This is too weird! Even the RX Nystatin didn't clear it!

would it be anything about with diapers you actually wiped them between changes and cleaned their bottoms, but with potty training most of their urine goes in the potty, but they can spray themselves... and you don't wipe them quite as well??

    what a hassle!

Excema is not caused my wetness. If that is what is going on, it isn't the potty training but a coincidence. Hope it clears up soon. My DD get a rash in her vagina if she is not wiped really well. I have to use wipes not just TP to make sure she is clean.

Ya but it's nothing to do w/ being clean here. It's like on the folds of their legs. Very weird. I guess I'll just keep doing lotion and butt cream. Plus, I have boys and they aren't spraying themselves they just pee one straight stream into the toiled and have been trained for over six months. Weird! Oh well.. always somethin'! Thanks!!
