i was wondering if anyone else has a really rapid heartbeat like 3x as fast as it did prepregnancy and can feel it beating throughout my body...and it actually makes my stomach vibrate and i can see my stomach beating just by looking at it. i also have shortness of breath like crazy! has this happened to anyone with a singleton pregnancy? or is it only with multiples?

They are heart palpitations and are normal; i had them with my singleton pregnancies as well. Just let your doc know about it, usually nothing to worry about, just kind of feels funny.

I did when I was pregnant with the twins. How far along are you? You need to be checked out by a doctor. I had to go on meds for this problem towards the end. My resting heartrate was up in the 140's. I went to L/D and they kept me and did EKG's and heart ultrasounds, when I was about 33 weeks, which they found nothing on [IMG]. I stayed for 3 days, and went home on meds. CALL YOUR DOCTOR! And in the mean time, lay on your left side, and make sure that you are well hydrated. [IMG]

thanks. yeah it just feels so funny, i think that might be another reason for my breathlessness. im keeping myself hydrated and i have water with me at all times.

I'm astonished at how rapidly my heart beats...my normal resting rate is about 62 and now at rest i'm about 80 - and when i climb a flight of stairs - forget it! I hear it all the time - makes me crazy, to hear my blood 'singing' in my veins when i'm lying down....i would definitely ask your OB; mine just smiled and said "that would be the 50% more blood volume your heart has to pump through your body".

I was searching to see if anyone else had this problem. I've had a rapid heartbeat for awhile I really didn't notice it till the alarms started going off when they took my blood pressure after delivery. My resting heart rate was in the 120's. It's now a little over a week since I delivered and my pulse is still over 100 resting. My DRs can't explain it, they did an EKG and changed my blood pressure medication (I had severe Pre E) but my pulse is still high. I'd love to know if anyone had this after delivery and how long it took to go back to normal. I'm an athlete and it's driving me nuts to have high BP and a crazy high resting pulse.

    Thanks

  8. My heart races alot too and if it happens really quickly it will make me sick to my stomach as well. Mine has never gotten so fast that I needed medical intervention but I see from other posts that that is a possibility. Yikes! Yet one more thing for me to stress about!!! I also have shortness of breath. The last few nights it has been hard for me to sleep laying down...even on my left side... because I can't breath very well and I am only 22 weeks!!!!

My heart rate is definitely high. Sometimes around 120 or so. I've read that it should only be a concern if it starts going over 140. Your heart rate always increases in any pregnancy, but with twins you're pumping twice as much blood, so it would most likely be faster than with a singleton pregnancy.

Do any of you have it happen about 40-55 minutes after eating?
That was my tip-off that I had developed Hypoglycemia during this pregnancy. Sure, I'd get beating heart after stairs and stuff too, but I could guarantee it happening after I ate, especially after breakfast. It started at about 18 weeks and my BP levels at the docs have been perfect.

I have been able to regulate it so it doesn;t happen almost ever. The palpitations were an indication of when insulin was rushing into my body . I started eating much more balanced meals, adding A LOT more protein and slow carbs. For a few weeks in there-maybe 24-26, I had to even eat like yogurt or something before going to sleep. That all helped keep my levels steady.
If anyone's wondering if these are signs of GD, nope. I take my glucose readings and they average about 64 for my fast and 90 for my 1 hour. Super low. My doc says he's seen a lot of twin pregnancies go that way. He says the babies just suck everything outta ya.

It's leveled off quite a bit this last week or so as my body switches into a new phase.

Anyway, hope that helps someone! Pre-E is scary and nerve-wracking, and these symptoms can fool some people into thinking that's what problem is.

About 3 weeks before Christmas, I woke up in the middle of the night feeling really "jumpy". The next day I felt the same way. I noticed it the most when I was trying to rest because I just couldn't relax. Our neighbor is a nurse and she told me to go to the ER because my heartrate was about 130 laying down. The hospital did an EKG and some bloodwork and couldn't find any reason for it to be high. They called my peri and he told them that it is common with a multiple pg so they sent me home. I met with my peri several days later and he said he would refer me to a cardiologist, but he believed it was pg related and it won't harm the twins. I continued feeling jumpy for about a week and hasn't bothered me since. I will say I felt horrible when I was having the problem - breathlessness, extremely tired and the inability to relax.

I have also had a singleton pg and I never experienced this problem with it.
