Just curious at what age did you introduce raisins and other dried fruit?
Also, how many teeth did you have? (We only have the top/bottom 4).
Any can't miss favorites to try first?

I started with raisins at about 10 1/2 months - they love them. I haven't given them anything else yet though.
As for teeth DD still only has the bottom 2 (3rd finally poking thru) and DS has 4 upper and 2 lower.

I waited for the molars which was 14 months for us. They love dried fruit -- especially apricots.

Have you tried the dried blueberries at Costco? They were giving out samples when we were there. Allison loved them. Just like a raisin, but softer. Lindsey wouldn't have anything to do with them, so I didn't want to get a great big bag! Stephanie

I didn't give raisins till 18 months. I read someplace that it was a choking hazard, so I didn't want to give them until a year, and then I just sort of forgot about them. They seem to like them now, though we still don't give them often.

I think I tried larger dried fruit once (apricots or something), thinking they might like to gnaw on it, but it sort of frustrated them. I may wait till they have their 2nd molars before I try that again.

This is a little different, but last time we were at Costco, they had these dried fruit chips -- they are 100% fruit, but somehow dehydrated so that instead of being chewy, they're like very lightweight potato chips. The girls LOVED them. The only problem is that they can break up into pretty small pieces, so they're actually sort of messy if you're out & about.

Hmmm, I tried those dried blueberries from Costco once for myself and didn't like them (I didn't think they tasted much like blueberries), but maybe the girls won't care about that!

I have a list of choking hazards from the Pediatrician. It says no raisins until 3. I think I gave them at 2 or 2 and a half for my oldest though.

We gave them dried fruit at about 16 months(we had tired before but they weren't chewing them fully). They had probably 9-10 teeth. We like the berry mixture(from sunkist I think). Sunkist I think has a mixture of three different kinds of dried fruit in a box(berry, tropical and another). The berry blend is like craison, cherries and that sort so they are smaller than raisans therefore less a choking hazard

Thanks for the tips. I think we'll try some of the softer, smaller stuff and see how it goes.

Stephanie...the boys LOVE blueberries so I'll have to check those out. Funny, Alden thinks they don't actually resemble blueberries. ;) I'll have to see for myself.

My babes also love the Costco dried blueberries. We started giving them at around 18 months. Cole has all his 1 year teeth, Chloe is missing a few still, but handles them just fine. Today was the first day that I gave them rasins, and they liked them too (they are 20 months now).

Yogurt raisins were a big hit this morning (although I picked out the "biggies").

You could also cut the fruit to make it smaller. I cut their apricots because giving them a whole one is just asking for trouble. I don't cut the raisins, cherries, or cranberries. I also think you have to consider how your child is doing with moving things around in their mouth. If they can manage a fistful of dog kibbles without choking, they can probably handle a raisin... KWIM?

My pedi gave me guidelines on avoiding choking hazards and then a flyer on boosting calories and guess which food item was on both lists? That's right, raisins!
