It's been raining here for about a week straight, and my kids are climbing the walls! And we just got a new swingset, so they're begging to go outside. Soon as I find some rubber boots for them I think I'm going to say the heck with it & go outside.

What are some fun inside activities? We do lots of crafts & playdough, but even that gets old after awhile. :(

We go into my room, open the closet door and let them have fun with my shoes. They LOVE this. I also have a stash of holiday stuff (headbands, necklaces, etc.) that I let them dig through.

Other times I'll dump all the Tupperware and wooden/plastic utensils I have onto the kitchen floor and let them go hog wild.

We let the boys go into their sister's room!!! She doesn't mind as long as we don't leave the mess behind for her!!!They love it!!!!
I put the Wiggles DVD's on and they dance and sing around the living room!!! They help me "clean"! I sort laundry with them. They love me to change the sheets or even just make the beds--- they like to get inside and play parachute with the sheets!
They like big sister to drag them around the floor on blankets!!

We are in Seattle, so from Oct-Apr rain is always a factor (and for the other 6 months is often a factor). We don't let it phase us for the most part.

We have good rain boots (not the crap ones from Target that disintegrate under the stress of active play), rain pants, and rain jackets that allow us to still at least enjoy the yard, though we often don't bother to go to a park on downpour days as it can be colicky, but keeping these items near the door allows us to head out quickly whenever it lets up. Even if it's only for 15 minutes, the fresh air makes a big difference for ALL 3 of us.

Other rainy day cards I play:
    • They like the 3-D foam stickers (target has huge bins for $5 near the office supplies).
    • Homemade play dough (more fun than regular b/c it's a cooking project too and is still warm when they play with it)
    • Thomas tent & play tunnel. These are collapsible so they are easily stored when not in use and an insta-obstacle course when opened. I don't allow them to come out whenever as that would dilute its fascinating, rainy-day power.
    • Cooking projects
    • Painting
    • Impromptu bath
    • Pillow/blanket forts
    • Buttons & Beads - they are now quite fascinated with my button bin. I give them each a muffin pan and they like to sort them out in to different cups based on size, color, shape. They are also enjoying doing some light 'stringing' work.
    • I think it's time for us to get some lacing cards, which would be another great indoor task.
    • I have two separate toy rotations and when I usually wait for a day we're stuck inside to change them over as they find the rediscovery fascinating.
    • Disney movies - just recently have a long enough attention span for a few, select Disney/Pixar movies.

Coloring, painting and other Crayola things are what we do on rainy days.

We went to a play group recently and the woman that held it had THE BEST rainy day activity. Actually, you could use it rain or shine but it is great. To find it go to : http://www.myveryownhouse.com/playhouse/

    and look at "the cottage"

To describe it - it is a giant cardboard playhouse that is like one big blank slate on which everyone can color, put stickers, paint, whatever they want. It has windows and a door and the kids enjoyed playing in it as much as they enjoyed coloring it.
