I am shopping on Diapers.com and want to know how many of each I should buy of each preemie and newborn.

My girls were 6 lbs 3 ozs and 6 lbs 8 ozs at birth, but they did drop to under 6. We used preemies for the first week- and have just recently went to size 1's from newborn. I think we used what the hospital gave us as preemie- and bought two packs. I know we went through at least 10 packs of newborns!

My girls were out of preemie diapers by the time they were about 37 weeks gestation. I think they were 6lbs or really close to it. The newborn size was a little big at first, but those preemie diapers are a lot harder to manipulate. I don't know that I would go out and buy any if I were you until you know that you are going to need them.

mine were born 5lbs and 5lbs5oz. They did drop to under 5lbs and to 5lbs after birth. Since they were in the NICU for 9 and 14 days, they provided the diapers for us then, obviously. We only had a couple packs of preemie diapers before they started leaking out of them. Then we moved to newborns for a few weeks and then again they started leaking out of them, now we are on size 1's and they are perfect. They were a little big in the beginning but better then too small and leaking!

We went through 12 packs of premie diapers. Mine were 4.12 lbs and 5.9 lbs. and were in the NICU 12 and 14 days. My mom bought us a case of premies off amazon of pampers swaddlers and there were 12 packs. DS was in newborn until 2 1/2 mo. old and still in size one at 4 months old. DD was in newborn till 2 mo old and size 1 till 3 months old and now size two. I would also suggest getting a lot of wipes. I can't seem to keep enough of these. I have to buy two big packs (the pampers brand with 231 in it) every month. Right now at 4 months old they are still using 12-16 diapers a day together.

It might be worth it to wait and see if they fit into newborn size at the hospital. If not, then it would be worth buying a pack or two. It seems most babies, even smaller, don't fit in preemie for long.

Mine were 5lbs and 6lbs. The NICU supplied the preemie diapers for the first 12 days they were born. At home we went through 3 packages (20 diapers each) and then now we're in Newborn size (size 1 is WAY too big). So they have been in Newborn size about 3 weeks or so. They now weigh about 6.5lbs and 7lbs

Mine were born in my 33rd wk. One was 4 lbs 10 and the other 5 even. They were in the NICU 2 wks exactly and I think they were in preemie diapers for about 2 months. Newborn diapers were just too huge. I remember thinking and hoping to move up because the preemie diapers were so much more expensive than the newborn larger packs. But we kept having to go back and buy more. If you think they will be born early, I'd say look for a good deal online. Or, better yet, buy somewhere that you will be able to exchange unopened packs later for the larger size. I had a pretty good idea that I would go early due to PTL. But wasn't able to shop either. I wish we would have been able to prepare more. Hope that helps! :)

I bought 2 pkgs of 20, which makes my total 60 preemie and then I bought 3 pks of 40 which brings my total to 200 Newborn. I have my baby showers the 9th at 17th of feb, should I hold off buying anymore till then?

Mine were born at 35 weeks 4 days and very small. They were 3.8 and 4.11 and came home with me 4 days later... ;) I beleive that they were in Preemie diapers for about 4-6 weeks... I feel that you can never buy to many diapers. ;) I always have at least 8-10 packages at all times at my house... I hate getting low... I just always took them back to CVS, they exchanged anything for me...

Mine only wore preemie size in the NICU. The were transferred to another hospital when they were around 3 lbs each and there they only used newborn size. Yes they were big, but they were fine, even at 3 lbs. We stayed in Pampers Swaddlers newborn for several months before moving up to a size 1. I remember looking for preemie diapers, but they were so much more expensive that it didn't make sense - in the early days we went through about 20 diapers a day between the two of them, so it really would have added up.

I'd say just wait and see - if they are small enough that preemie is the only size that will work, they will most likely be in the hospital where they are provided and will give you time to figure out what you need at home.

My babies were 6 lbs 13ozs & 7 lbs 10ozs they never wore premie! We did buy 2 packs of newborn and the hospital sent us home with LOTS of diapers so the 2 NB we bought were all we needed. I would really get more of the size 1's and up... if you need more than a pack or 2 of NB then have someone get you some a day before you go home... remember.... most hospitals send you home with them, and if you're really nice to the nurses they will sneak you extras ;)

I would wait to buy a ton of diapers. My girls were small (see sig) and were in preemie diapers for about 6-8 weeks (I can't remember, but I do remember it was awhile)... then they were in NB for only a short time before they fit into size 1. I thought I'd have a hard time finding preemie diapers so I ordered a bunch from diapers.com a couple days before they came home from the hospital, but then they had them at BRU so we bought a couple packages there too. And then the hospital sent us home with a whole pack of them too! So I wouldn't worry about not having diapers. Also the pampers preemies didn't work for my girls, but the huggies did. However when they moved into NB size, the huggies leg holes were too big, but pampers were perfect. So just be aware that you may have to experiment a bit to find out what works best for your kiddos. GL with the rest of your pg!

My twins were born at 35 weeks and were in preemie diapers for only a couple weeks. I wouldn't buy many, because they aren't in them long.

Katie went straight to 1's, then quickly to 2's and is now in 3's.

Just a few weeks. Newborn worked just as well folded over and pulled tight.

Mine were born at 3lb4oz and 3lb8oz, and wore preemie diapers for about 3 weeks. While still in the NICU they switched them to newborn size, which absorb a lot more. They came home in newborns at around 4.5 pounds each. I think I switched them to size 1's maybe around 8-10 weeks, I can't remember for sure.

We didn't use preemie at all, my babies were born at 6 pounds and 6 pounds 13 ounces, DD did drop to 5 pounds 13 ounces at her lowest. We used the newborn until they were 6 weeks old. I wouldn't buy alot of any size, it amazes me how fast they move through them, I had alot of size 1's that I ended up exchanged for 2's, b/c they were only in size 1's from 6 weeks-12 weeks. And now DS is already in size 3's, DD still fits in 2's.

My boys were big (see siggie), but did drop into the low 6lb range before hospital discharge. The hospital supplied us with some preemie diapers, but they were always too snug, so we only used the newborn. I found Huggies Newborn fit best when they were tinier & then I prefered the Pampers Swaddlers.

I used coupons & bought diapers EVERY time I was out at the store to try to help with cost & such after the boys were born. I ended up returning $80 worth of diapers to Walmart (they took them w/o a receipt) because they outgrew them so fast. We're currently in Size 3s & now I buy them box by box from Sam's Club. Like pp said, they can grow out of them sooo quickly!

We didn't use preemie at all. I used newborn (Pamper swaddlers which the hospital provided and I had them same at home) despite the fact that my DD was 5.3lbs at birth...we left the hospital 3 days later and she was 4.9lbs when we left. Newborn were fine on her. From what I hear there isn't that much of a size difference between preemie and newborn?? OR so I've been told.

DS was in newborn for only 2 weeks. He was 7.10lbs at birth.
