I was just wondering what the difference is in a cloth diaper pail and say a small lidded trash can is? From what I read, it seems like there isn't any. I can't find an actual picture of one anywhere, but I would think that a small or medium trash can would work just as well, with some kind of an air freshener would be fine... any suggestions or info would be great. Trying to get this cd thing down! I hate not being organized and I am afraid when I get further along, I am not going to feel like messing with all the trivial details.

I just got a pail from walmart. I am BF so, we really don't have a smell issue.

I've got just a regular trash pail with lid and a foot pedal, and a cloth laundry bag to use as a liner. HTH!

I have a regular lidded trash can with a cloth diaper bag inside. We use a dry pail and no air fresheners, etc and have no issues.

I also use a metal trashcan with a foot pedal -- this was the only thing I found that was large enough and I only paid something like $20 for it. It has a plastic liner that comes out but I still use a waterproof nylon sack so I can haul the diapers downstairs to the laundry easily and I don't have to wash a big, plastic can liner every time. I put the sack and diapers in the wash together and the sack hangs to dry so I have an extra one to rotate.

With the girls, I just used a waterproof bag. I didn't bother with a pail. With Dax, I got a Safety 1st Diaper Pail from Target.com . It was just easier because the lid popped up to put the diaper in and then closed right back up. It was also a good size because it fits the same amount as my washing machine does.

I would think a small trash can would work just as well as a cloth diaper pail and probably holds a more similar amount to what your washing machine does than a big diaper pail would.

That's what I was thinking! Thanks for confirming! I have lots of extra material, so I will make a couple cloth bags to set inside the trash can. I like that idea so I can just wash it when I do the diapers!

... and there are a number of sources online for PUL fabric. I suggest getting a little extra to make a couple sacks for your diaper bag.

I had a true pail, and wanna know the difference? The plastic was different (more the brittle kind of plastic than the rubbermaid kind) and it had as lot to hold a deodisc...but the discs always fell out! So, we put the pail in our laundry room as a trash can and used the kitchen can in our laundry room as our pail :)

My favorite pail liners are from Snap-Ez.
