Okay - these are my first kids and I am still confused on calculating age. My babes were born March 10th. Tuesday, June 30th they are 16 weeks. Do I count that as 4 months for development? Or do I count 4 months on June 10th? Confusing - the doctor goes by weeks for the 4-month appt but my friends say go by date. I read a lot of books so at least for the purpose of reading up on development and other things, which do you go by? Total weeks or date? Sorry if this is confusing.

I always was confused by this (and still am). My ped's office went by months for development, so I just went by them.

i never count the month until the birth date rolls around. so for example, my guys were born on september 15th. so i don't count it as another month until the 15th of the month. however many weeks they may be, they weren't 9 months until june 15th.

me too - the problem is that there isn't exactly 4 weeks in every calendar month (except for february). so while we're used to thinking of a month as 4 weeks, it's actually 4 and a bit. i count age the way the tickers do - sometimes they say 6 months, 4 weeks & 2 days old (or whatever), then when the next (in our case) 5th of the month roles around they're 7 months old.

for developmental things, i go by months. HTH.

That is a really good point - I guess the ticker is also a great source. :) I wander why my pedi goes by the weeks? May I should call the front desk and ask...hmmm...

    I do the same.

Seems like we went by weeks until they were about 4 months old. Then it got to be too much math. :p

I do the same. So for example Ethan was 12 weeks last Monday but just turned 3 months today. I tend to think in weeks and months until around 5-6 months when I just say months (can't imagine saying they're 30 weeks old).
