I went and did my registry for my girls...everyone has asked what do I need? All I keep saying is DIAPERS! So, what I want to know is what size diapers were your kids wearing at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months? Thanks!

My boys were both about 5 1/2 lbs, I had plenty of newborn diapers and clothes in stock for their arrival...but found myself having to purchase premie diapers and premie clothes, they just fit sooo much better. They used them for about 2 months, even babies 6-7 lbs fit good in those. At 6 months we were in diaper size 3, after that we went to 4's and have been in them until now at 11 months. HTH! congrats to you! :)

I think it really depends on the kid. At one month, both of mine were in newborns still. At 3 months, one was in size ones (could have still used newborns) and the other was in size 2s. 6 months, size 2 and size 3. Now at 9 months, it's the same. 2 and 3. I have not had to buy diapers yet because I got so much from showers. I have exchanged a lot though. Just don't open packages and you'll be fine. Most places will exchange the sizes out for you without any questions or receipts.

My munchkins are only 2 months but they wore premie for the first couple days they were home. They were in Newborn until about 6 weeks and then they were getting small but 1s seemed huge. Now they fit pretty good in size 1.

At one month we were wearing preemie swaddlers. Then we graduated to the 1/2 swaddlers at about 2 months.

I just wanted to add that not all diapers are the same. I got lots of Huggies, but the Pampers fit them better, and that's all we buy now. Also, our kiddos are pretty heavy for their age, and they outgrew their diaper sizes several weeks before they were supposed to!

Don't get too many size 1's! I had so many size 1 diapers given to me that I gave away 5 boxes to other moms! I would suggest getting a variety of sizes, they don't stay in newborn and 1 as long as you might think! We've been in size 3 since 6 months old and we are still in size 3.

Second the PP's comment about not all diapers are equal. Because of the lankiness of my two, we have to use Pamper's baby-dry, none of the others fit them. And at being only 22 and 23 pounds, they're in size 5's, the 4's just don't come up high enough. Plus the same with wipes, not everyone likes the same wipes (and not all babies can tolerate the same wipes)

I would ask for diaper gift certificates instead of actual diapers from either a place online or Walmart/Target/BRU. I've gotten diapers from Diapers.com. Prices are the same as your usual chain retailers once you add in shipping and taxes. I've also found that the best price per diaper is at BJ's.

I thought for sure that my girls were going to come early and be premies [I'm not very big, I thought my body would give]. But they were heathy 6.2 and 6.8 lbs! Started out wearing newborns, then around a month went into 1's, then 1/2's.. By the 3rd month they were in 2's. 4.5 months we went into size 3 Luv's [Luv diapers size runs small so the transition from 2-3 wasn't too much]. We recently went from size 3 Luv's to size 3 Huggies. And that's where we are today ^_^

During the first couple months we went through 18-24 diapers a day. Now we're looking at 12-15 a day. An 80-pack almost lasts us a week.

There's some perspective for ya :)

Diapers are a good idea, you will need lots!
Our girls were born 6 weeks early and were 5lbs 3 oz and 5 lbs 15 oz.

From Newborn to about 3 weeks they were in newborn.

From 4 weeks till 3 months they were in size 1.

3 months to 5 months they were in size 2

5 months (this is how old they are now) we are transitioning to size 3 ---2 is a little snug now.

We go through anywhere from 16-20 diapers a day all together. They get changed approz every 2-3 hours. So in a week we go through 112-140 diapers YIKES! (Which is approximately one big box)

In their first couple months they go through alot more...especially if they are breastfed. I would maybe register for a few different sizes. I had about 2 packages of newborn size and 5 of the big boxes of size 1 to start off with(which still wasnt enough).

Maybe request gift cards to babies r us or walmart so that you can use those towards diapers. Also remember that as long as you dont open the box they can be returned for a different size. Just make sure to get gift receipts if possible in case you need to exchange some. Hope this helps!

Olivia grew FAST and was 25+ lbs at 9 months. She's been in size 4 for quite awhile now. Even with my twins being preemies, size 4 was the size they were in the longest. I would tell people to get you the bigger sizes and KEEP the receipts. I know with my twins, they coulnd't wear Huggies until size 5 b/c they always leaked out of them. I bought Pampers and Target brand. With Olivia, Huggies have worked since day 1...so I use those and Kirkland brand from Costco. It really depends on the baby. I wouldn't get too many of the size 1 or newborns. And, I wouldn't tell people to get you preemie size. Those are TOO expensive unless you have really tiny babies...and odds are, they would be home from the hospital wearing newborn diapers. My twins were 3#14oz and 4#8oz. at birth and never wore a preemie diaper. They just folded down the waist on the newborn diapers in the NICU and they wore newborn when they came home.

When our twins were newborns we used the preemie swaddlers, I am pretty sure by the 1st month, we were able to use size 1 and by 6 months we were size 2/3 and as of now 13 months, they are still in size 3. I think if you suggest diapers in a variety of sizes or even gift cards to Walmart, Target, BRU or whereever you like to buy diapers that would be a huge help! Congrats on those babies!
