    PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO HANDLE THIS DH IS AT A SPECIAL DUTY AND I'M BY MYSELF AND HAVE NEVER EXPERINCED THIS BEFORE!!!

Let me start by backing up a few days and tell you what has been going on at my house. We are finishing up our last can of formula and I have been mixing whole milk and formula. So Wed night I fixed both kids 6 oz milk 2 oz formula. The next morning DD woke up covered head to toe in poop!! I really didn't think much of it and seemed fine through out the rest of the day just two more runny poopie diapers that day. Thurs night same thing with 6 oz milk 2 oz formula. Then Fri morning when I went to wake her up she was fine but, throughout the day she started having an upset stomach probably 4 -5 diapers. That night same thing 6 oz milk 2 oz formula so, Sat morning she woke up screaming poop head to toe again awful red diaper rash from her upset tummy! So through out the day Sat she had 4 runny poop diapers. So last night I gave her back straight formula without milk thinking she might be having a reaction to milk. Early this morning at 1:00 am she woke up throwing up and upset tummy! I was up with her from 1:00-3:00 before she went back to sleep she wouldn't keep anything down. Finally she went to sleep in my arms at 3:00 and then at 7:00 she was up. I gave her for b'fast toast and gatoraide and she threw that back up & had 2 runny poop diapers. I sent my SIL to the store for pedialyte this morning so, DD started drinking sips of it and kept it down. At lunch she ate 1/2 piece of toast and drank the pedilite. During her nap she threw up again. So I still continued to give the pedialyte and she took sips of it. At dinner she ate 1/2 piece of toast and 2 pieces of banana. Then about 30 mins after she ate that had runny poop diaper again.
She's alseep now (knock on wood) but, I don't know what the night has in store for me. If she starts throwing back up should I take her to the ER? I want to keep her from getting dehyrated! She is sooo miserable and I hope that she'll sleep some through the night! I'm also scared that DS will catch it!
Could it be the whole milk and she was having a reaction to it? Has anyone had any experince with that? She has been able to drink regular formual without any problems. She eats grilled cheese, eggs without problems too!
I am just exhausted and don't know what to do!
I called our PEDI and she was really NO HELP!! She said that toddlers can have upset tummys for up to 12 days and can be sick throwing up for up to 5 days before she is concerned! Seems alittle too long for me. She said just keep giving her the pedialyte and make sure her diapers are wet. That's all she said..not call our office in the morning to get her in I want to see her or nothing!
I really think she didn't want to be bothered on a Sunday evening!!

Sorry everyone for such a long post but, if anyone has ANY ADVISE.... PLEASE SHARE IT WITH ME!!!!

THANKS FOR LISTENING & HELPING A POOR TIRED & EXHAISTED MOM OUT!!!!

I'm sorry this is happening while you are alone. Hopefully she gets better soon.

Some thoughts: My girls got a virus with about the same symptoms a few months ago. We were still nursing, so I quit all food/fluids except breastmilk and pedialyte. I assume you aren't, but I would hold off on anything but pedialyte until she hasn't thrown up for at least 12 hours, if not more. Give her sips of fluid - think of her stomach like a balloon that you never want to overfill and give her only a sip at a time. She keeps that down for five minutes, another sip. So on and so forth.

As far as the diarrhea - not much to do, other than slather A and D or whatever your favorite diaper cream is on her. When she is eating, give her what you were - bananas, toast, rice, applesauce.

As long as she has wet diapers, she isn't dehydrated. Just keep giving her sips of fluid every five minutes while she is awake.

Good luck. Hope you and her get some sleep tonight.

I'm no doctor, but it sounds like a stomach bug to me. Is she running a fever? If she were my child, I would just keep a close eye on her and take her to the doctor tomorrow. As long as she is taking sips of pedialyte she will probably be fine until the morning. I don't think it's a reaction to the milk, just a coincidence. However, you have to do what makes you feel comfortable. If you feel that something is just not right, follow your gut because mommies just usually have a sense about those things.

Okay, DON'T give her any food until she's kept only fluid down for almost a full day! Just like Erica said, small sips of fluid -- pedialyte or diluted gatorade -- and that's it. It sounds like a nasty virus. I doubt she'd have this kind of reaction to whole milk.

Ugh. My older DD had rotavirus at 15 months, and it was the most hellish thing ever. I feel for you! Hope your munchkin is better soon!

Oh, and when you do give food, just tiny bites of banana, plain white rice, applesauce and plain toast. NO dairy, especially yogurt, for a few days. It just irritates an already upset stomach and makes everything come back up...

It sounds like A stomach bug to me!! DO NOT GIVE MILK!!! It just makes their tummy more sour..
IF she feels like eating.. Toast is a good idea.
Pedialite is the best. Even if you have to put it in a medicine dropper and let it dribble down her throat..

If her mouth is dry or has no wet diapers. She is dehydrated and needs to be seen.

I hope she feels better!!!!! The stomach bug flew thru our house.. It was Awful!!!

Sounds like a virus. My DS woke a few days ago vomiting all over. Even on mom and my bed. He was sick vomiting for about 4 days. I took him to peds and they gave him anti naususe meds and that seemed to help. Thank goodness my other 2 didn't get it.

our doctor says no fluids until an hour after they're done throwing up - otherwise you're going to see it coming right back up (and its true)...and then just a tablespoon at a time...

I have actually been told exactly the opposite about the yogurt. Once things start staying down then yogurt with active cultures is the only dairy to give because the good bacteria will help to rid the body of the bad bacteria. I usually tend to stay away from any other dairy products for an entire week after things get better as they tend to exacerbate the problem but I try to start yogurt as soon as I can.

I hope she is feeling better! I am the only adult in the house as well and when they are sick it is soo challenging. I don't usually call the ped as generally it just takes time to get it out of their system but like the others have said, go with your gut and get in to see the ped if you feel like you should!

I hope today is much improved!

My immediate thought reading your post is Rotavirus. It was the WORST week of our lives, only my kiddos were even worse than your daughter. I can't tell you how many sleepers we went through from all the blow outs (I believe my boys were 8 mos or so).

Our Ped said to give ONLY Pedialyte. If they keep that down for 24 hrs, then you can add formula/milk/solids (lucky for us, solids weren't a big deal at the age my boys got sick).

If you notice she isn't crying with tears, her mouth is dry, she's not WETTING diapers (which is hard to tell if they're full of liquid poo), or she's exceptionally lethargic...then take her in. If she's hanging in, I'd just keep an eye on her. I used to try Tylenol/Ibuprofen, but it's never a guarantee it stays down! Oh, and if you're having a problem keeping Pedialyte down her, do it in small amounts. My boys would CHUG it from being so thirsty & it would come right back up. At one point, we were doing syringes every few minutes. Exhausting, but it stayed in! As for her diaper rash, I found Triple Paste worked the best.

Good luck, chances are your son isn't too far behind.....

Thank you all that posted! The replies helped and I'm glad to know I was doing the correct things.
An upate on DD she slept through the night (I checked on her all through out the night) so, I didn't sleep much but, everytime she made a grunt I was in there checking on her. This morning she woke and was in a runny poop diaper but, drank her pedialyte and ate a handful of Cheerios(plain) she was crying when I was gave DS some so, I gave in. She also seems alittle less whinny too. So, far no throwing up and they are both napping(so that's a plus too!) DS (KNOCK ON WOOD) is showing no signs....SO FAR!!!

**Another couple of Questions...How long should I wait to give her regular foods & start back milk?
Does anyone believe it could have been the whole milk?? should I just give her formula and no milk?
For you all that have kids with milk allergys what were the symptoms and were they able to drink regular formula, eat cheese, yogurt, eggs, etc?
I'm just confused and need more help....

    Thanks Again Everyone :)
