My girls are 3 weeks old, born at 34w5d and I have a few questions...

1. How often do you bathe your babies at this age? I've heard anywhere from everyday to once a week.
2. When did you start going out in public?
3. My girls sleep A LOT, the nurses told us that for now when they are not feeding they need to be sleeping so they can continue to develop, well when should or will they start being more awake during the day?

TIA!

1. we bathed about 2 times a week at that age.
2. not very often unless I had too, but that was for my sake.
3. My guess is around 4-8 weeks adjusted age.

HTH :)

1. We kept the schedule from the NICU with baths on Sunday and Thursday.
2. We still don't go out in public. We only go to the doctor or to see grandparents. Our first planned event is baptism on Apr. 26 and we're doing it privately with family only. Our first scheduled public event is May 22 when I take the girls to meet my coworkers.
3. Mine have some periods where they are awake for an hour or so between feedings, but they still sleep A LOT.

I bathed my boys every few days, mostly because I was so exhausted and tired from surgery that I didn't always have the energy. I wasn't huge on taking them out right away for many of the same reasons. My boys were born at 37 weeks and it was about 3-4 weeks after that they started waking up a little and came out of that "feed and put right back down" phase.

My ped said not to bathe for the first few weeks since they can't regulate their temp well. Plus, you don't want to get the cord wet. Now since mine are almost 3 weeks and the cord is gone I will probably bathe them once a week.

I have not gone out w/ them yet (except to ped office) and probably won't for a few more weeks. I will probably wait until they are 7-8 weeks, which would be 1 month if they had been born at 40 weeks. But I am cautious! :)

Mine are still sleeping a lot most days :)

1. Once the cord came off, I bathed them every few days. It was important to me to get them in the water and make it a good experience.
2. It was the height of RSV season (which they ended up catching at daycare) so we waited as long as we could stand. After they were two months old we'd venture out to run errands and walk. Sometimes we'd put them in the sng and cover them and got to target. We had to do something to stay sane!
3. Yes - feeders and growers. That's all we did for the first 2-3 months. All they did was sleep until they were about 2 months (actual age). By 3 months things were much more fun and interactive. My DD still naps a lot during the day, but DS not as much.

Enjoy them and congrats!

1. At that age, we bathed them about twice a week.
2. We just recently started taking them with us to run errands and such. Before that it was just to the pedi's office or to my parent's house.
3. I noticed them being awake more around 8 weeks.

1 We bathed 3 times a week and still do.
2 From the very beginning I went places to visit freinds, to church, even to the store. I know people will argue with me but, right now they have a natural immunity from you and from teh colestrum they ate the first week. They aren't very susptable to disease right now. About 6 weeks that starts to wear off and then they need to have their own immunity built up to fight off disease. IF they can build that up while they have some from you and some from colestrum then it is easier. I took mine out from week 2 and until 3 weeks ago they never got sick. My DD caught something 3 weeks ago and even though the DR said my DS woudl get it, he didn't. So I have nothing to complain about, even after being around kids that turned up sick a few days after we was them, my babies never got sick. This is based on medical fact not just my opinion. I know people will disagree but you have ot make your own decision. But taking them out won't get them sick.
3 For the frist month mine mostly slept. About5-6 weeks they started being awake more than 10 min at a time. Mine were born at 36 weeks. I know of some singletons full term who have awake time from day 1 but not mine. By 2 mo they were wake an hour at a time.

Good luck and Congrats.
