I use this forum as an educational tool to follow along with my daughter's pregnancy. Her pregnancy has been difficult to say the least. She's had five hospital stays beginning early on and continuing throughout. She's now on strict bedrest. When she was released from the hospital this week she was 75 percent effaced and dialated at 2. The nurse indicated that both babies are head down and that they could touch the head of one twin with the fingertip. At week 26 or 27 I can't remember which one when she was in the hospital they gave her the first steroid shot then one again the following day. She's right at 32 weeks and with this hospital visit they gave her a third steroid shot. From your experiences on this board, anyone in this situation with the dialation, contractions, etc. how soon was birth? Thank you

I have no idea for an answer to your question. I just wanted to say Yay! for her for following directions to keep those little ones in as long as she can.

Am also a twin grandma. I think my daughter started dilating around the same time. She carried the girls to 36.5 weeks. She also had the set of steriod shots for PTL around 28-30 weeks. Both girls were born healthy. Little over 5 lbs each. No NICU time. Were 1 month yesterday and weighed in at 7 lb 4 oz and 6 lb 12 oz. Godd luck to your daughter!!!

Lots of women here were on bedrest, and dilated, that delivered at term (36-37 weeks). So it certainly is possible. I was discharged from the hospital at 32 weeks, almost completely effaced and dilated 1cm. I delivered at 34w4d, and the babies had no NICU time.

It has been a long haul for her, hasn't it?!!!!!

First off, congrats to her for carrying them this long. It is so tough when the pregnancy isn't "normal". And way to go to you for helping keep her informed, and for keeping yourself informed.

I think that the steroid shots will benefit the babies, and the fact that she is 32 wks. already is HUGE! That is super! If born today, they will most likely be just fine but need a little NICU time. My brother and his wife recently had two boys at 27 wks, and though they spent 3 months in the NICU, they are home and doing great now. I also was put on strict bedrest at 30 weeks for shortening cervix and dilation. With all the rest and care, I made it to 35 wks. My babes just needed 8 days in the NICU to learn to feed. Tell your daughter she is giving these babies a great start and doing wonderfully. Keep her resting on her side, and keep us posted. [IMG]

Another "happy ending" here. Her measurements this week sound like what mine were at 29 weeks. I delivered just over 36 weeks, no NICU!
