    Hi all!

I've made a first time appointment with a Pediatrician on Friday.
I'm a first time mommy, so I don't know what questions to ask her.
Could you please send me some important questions that I can ask on Friday?

I already know the times she works. She was recommended by my ob.

    thank you

    Denise

I would ask what books she recommends on parenting -- you can gauge from the suggested titles whether her "philosophy" on parenting will mesh with yours.

Ask whether she supports breastfeeding twins, if that is important to you.

Ask about the office's vaccination schedule, and whether they will be flexible with delaying and/or skipping some, if you should choose to request it.

Ask how long it will take to get a call-back from a nurse, if you call in with a question.

Ask what their policy is on antibiotics for ear infections -- prescribe them as a matter of course, or wait and see?

Also, will she do newborn exams in your chosen hospital?

I'm sure there are many more....I'll try to think of some....

    Thank you Becca!

    This truly helps!

By the way, do ear infections occur often in newborns? If so, what do I watch out for??

Also, what medicines do I buy before the twins are born? Or should I rather ask the pedi I decide upon?

    Thanks again
    Denise

I was the same way about questions. Let me see if I can come up with some that I remember asking.
    • how often to still be feeding?
    • growth?
    • if you see any signs of fussiness, a lot of crying, etc. as about it
    • daycare if you need to put them in it because of going back to work
    • baths, when can you start giving them a normal bath instead of a sponge bath?
    • if your babies were premature ask about the RSV vaccine. Mine were ineligiable for it, if you are eligiable for it go for it. It's an expensive vaccine $1000 a shot! If eligiable your insurance should cover it. Check it out. Mine ended up getting RSV and it wa s a long 2 weeks
    • ask all the little questions that you can think of. My pedi was great about that!
I hope some of these help. I was able to call my pedi office and ask any little question without having to go in for an appt. They know first time Mom's always have questions! Also if you don't have it get these 2 books: "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" and "Baby 411" These two books were a great help to me! Great tips and information!!!

Good Luck. PM me anytime for mor questions you may have.
