Hey Im expecting Twins and they are my first, I keep hearing about bottle sanitizers..is this nessasary or is washing them just in the dish washer ok..I thought i read you could just wash the bottles in the dish washer and boil the nipples?

    Im using the Playtex Ventair

Also..I was wondering about the Sleep positioners..how many have liked them and if they are a must too?

I never bothered much with sterilizers. The dishwasher works just fine. I would imagine this time with twins they'll be lucky if I even wipe it on my shirt before giving them back a paci that fell on the ground. LOL

I'm not sure on the sleep things. They have a lot of new ones out since I had a baby. The memory foam ones that support their heads look cool.

They do not recommend sleep positioners! They can be a SIDS risk.

Also, my childbirth instructor was talking about them last night. They first came out with them when the recommendation was to put infants on their sides to sleep. Then, the new recommendations came out to put them on their back, so they had to come up with something to sell, since nobody was going to buy the ones to position infants on their sides anymore. Also, she said some moms said their infants would slip down so their head was near the part where their arm should be - not safe.

Definitely do not use sleep positioners! Just lay them on their backs. As HinSD said, they are a SIDS risk.

Dishwashers are hot enough to sterilize your bottles. Just be careful because Bisphenol-A can leach out of polycarbonate bottles over time. I believe the Vent-Aire bottles are polycarbonate.

honestly, i don't know a single person who used a bottle sterilizer. even those without a dishwasher didn't use them. i think it's a bunch of hype.

as for sleep positioners - i used one with my daughter and it was fine but with my son i just used rolled up receiving blankets to get him slightly on his side because he wouldn't sleep on his back. if your babies are happy on their back you don't need to bother with the positioners but make sure to switch which head position your babies sleep with so that there is no flat spot.

as for SIDS - the chances of SIDS in a baby that doesn't have any health problems (especially respiratory) is next to nothing. not that we shouldn't take it seriously but if certain babies need to sleep on their stomachs most people go for it.
