I'm wrapping up a few questions here... [IMG]

My babies are 10 months old. I would like to introduce more into their diet, but there are SO many choices! I have started to give them whole wheat pasta and they love it, so it's time to expand and I'm not sure how to proceed.

Toast: what kind? How toasted? Do you cut off the crusts?

Pancakes: what kind? I found a recipe on wholesome baby food that looks good, but my pedi said NO eggs for the first year. Should I heed that warning or go ahead and let them have eggs?

Waffles: can I buy Eggo waffles in the store? Do those have eggs, too??!!

We do whole wheat, and cut off the crusts. I also cut it into small pieces.

I haven't made them, but I saw the recipe. We are using the mini frozen pancakes....they do fine with them.

I think they do have eggs, but I have given them without a problem.

As far as just giving them a whole egg, I would only give them the yolks right now.

    Good luck!

Our pedi said no waffles (egg) but then I was talking to one of the pediatricans where I work (who trained our pedi) and he said it was fine. So we are doing whole wheat Eggos. They love them. We haven't done pancakes yet, but we'll do whole wheat ones when we do.

we did whole wheat toast, toasted in the toaster and with the crusts on. the crusts were (and are still!) my boys' fave part! They eat it off all around the bread first! we served it dry or topped with cream cheese, butter or fruit spread.

We only just now started doing pancakes on occassion in the last few months, so no tips there.

we used frozen whole wheat waffles (store label) cut in strips. the boys loved that too.

Something else my kids loved were pita wedges topped with fruit spread or hummus. yummy!

toast - we do whole wheat or cinnamon swirl (whole grain), and I cut it into bite size pieces without the crust. I do give them strips occasionally, but Lily (who has only 2 teeth) just sucks on it then and Grace (who has 6 teeth) bites off too big of pieces.

pancakes - I made the recipe off wholesomebabyfoods and they were a big flop. Now I just give them regular old pancakes, eggs and all. We have no food allergies in either family, and they love the regular pancakes.

waffles - I buy organic whole grain blueberry waffles at Trader Joe's and give them those. Not so big on the waffles yet though. I've also given them restaurant waffles.

I've given them eggs a few times, but I don't specifically fix eggs for them yet. Just when we ate breakfast out or at a family's house we had eggs.

Excellent advice as always! I think I'll try toast and store waffles this week! [IMG]

I usually call my WIC office for food questions, since I bug the pedi's office for so many other things. All the ladies down there are VERY knowledgeable about food. Anyway, I asked her a few weeks ago about eggs b/c I was having a hard time with just the egg yolks & they were gagging on them. She said, since they were 10 mos already & there's no family history of egg allergies that it was probably ok to start eggs but to treat it like a new food. Try for 3 days without adding anything else new & watch for any reactions. We did, and they were fine!

I give the girls whole wheat toast with the crust cut off. I also put a little apple butter on it and the girls so crazy. [IMG] The girls love pancakes its one of their favorites, I make homemade pancakes on Saturdays as something a little special. I haven't given them waffles yet but am planning on buying some when I go shopping. I also make them french toast every once in awhile and they do really good this them. I asked my pedi about the egge thing and he told me at this age it wouldn't be a problem to give them things made with eggs. If your children don't have issues with allergys you could always try it and see how they react.
