Questions about poop colour?

My twin girls are almost 2 months old and as they have been maturing I have noticed a change in the poop colour. They have been on 1//2 formula and 1/2 breastmilk for the last few weeks since I no longer can keep up with the breastmilk demand. But from the beginning they have had the same formula and always needed to be topped up a bit. In the NICU they had formula and it made the poop brown and pastey looking. Anyways, lately it has been a very greenish brown colour with chunky bits in it. My mom thinks it is a bit too runny and green and wondered if it means upset tummies. Occassionally it is a bit more brown. They are on 0.2ml of iron, which I know can darken the poop. Welcome to motherhood..when you become obssessed by things like poop! Anyone have input. Should I be worried or is this normal?

I think it is most likely normal. Poop color changes over time and changes based on what you eat too if you are breastfeeding at all. I would be more worried about the consistency if it is super runny or has changed quickly instead of over time. I was surprised by how much poop changes and you will become obsessed with it :) but I think that means you are just doing your job as a mom. If we didnt' worry over their poop, it would be something else.

My lo's were pretty much on half bm and half formula until 3 months. When we were giving them Enfamil Gentlease it made DD's poop green and hard. It never bothered DS though. Once we switched her back to regular Enfamil it returned to a normal brownish color and less hard. It is amazing how much we think about poop as moms isn't it? :)

The greenish colour is typically from the iron in the formula. It's normal. You will see many odd colours of poop, some of them downright strange, over the next couple of years as they start eating more different foods. Basically, I always assume if they are feeling okay and gaining weight as they should be, poop colour means nothing. :pardon:

My twins are on Good Start and breastmilk combination. They also have green poop with yellow bits in them. I figured the green from the formula and the yellow bits are from the breastmilk.
They seem fine, so I figured it is because of the formula and their maturity that makes the color of their poop change

My girls are on the same combo as Gigantor's twins (Good Start and expressed breastmilk) and their BMs are exactly the same - green with yellow bits. The green colour is from the iron-fortified formula as Tina pointed out. So it's completely normal!
