    Hi Ladies,

This is my first post in the first year board and I have lots of questions as these are our first babies.

    1. How much and how often were/are your two week olds eating? (i'm feeding them pumped breastmilk with a small amount of formula added to keep them full longer)

    2. Do you change their diaper first or feed them first? The reason I ask this is they seem to poop while i'm feeding them and therefore use twice the diapers but I hate to leave them in a poopy diaper while feeding them.

    3. Do/did your twins burp after each feeding? If so what am I doing wrong I will try to burp them and after about 10 minutes of trying I finally give up.

    4. How do you treat a diaper rash on a newborn and why would they get one already? The rash is bright red and not on the "cheek" part only around the hole. I tried butt paste and desitin which only seemed to make it worse. Then my mom suggested bacitracin which seems to be helping a little any other suggestions?

Oh just one more Why oh why do they insist on pooping as soon as I change their diaper and get them dressed again?

They were eating every 3 hours..about 2-4 ounces. I bottle fed though.

I alwayd changed them first to wake them up. I would do whatever works for them.

I used alittle of the gas drops to help the process. but if they did not burp after a few minutes I would stop too.

    1. Mine ate constantly. I was only nursing though and supplementing with either EBM or formula if I ran out of pumped milk after nursing.

    2. At that age I changed them first to get them to wake up a bit. When I realized that they pooped after or during every feeding I started changing them after the feeding.

    3. I try, but a lot of times they won't burp.

    4. I found plain old vaseline worked best for diaper rash. Butt paste and balmex did nothing for my guys.

I was breastfeeding at the time and occassionally supplimenting. I put about 2oz in a bottle and let them eat what they needed. They eat every 2 1/2 hours

After - Mine pooped while eating too.

Burp them on your lap, leaning forward over your hand. This usually works. If there is no burp after 2 minutes - quit...lay them down..and try after a minute or so.

CAll your pedi for a diaper rash cream. Mine knew of a health store that made their own cream - it is fantastic. One of mt twins got a rash so bad that she was bleeding! Poor baby!

I fed my babies on demand -- which pretty much turned into every 2 hours at that age. ( I also fed EBM in Bottles at that point) but without the formula -- be careful about your milk supply when supplementing this early on.

We changed diapers alot in the first few weeks as we wanted to capture the poop data (pees/poops, etc.) for the chart. I've found that my babes tend to pee/poop while eating (probably making room for more :)

    3. Do/did your twins burp after each feeding? If so what am I doing wrong I will try to burp them and after about 10 minutes of trying I finally give up.

We didn't always get burps, I wouldn't get too freaked out. bending them forward with your hand on their chest worked well at that age.

You can try Lotramin (over the counter). My son had a rash at that age, it was yeast that developed because of the imbalance that was created by the anti-biotics I was given for my c-section. Yeast can lead to thrush, so definitely try Lotramin -- and if it doesn't work, talk to your pedi about Nystatin.

Ha, ha, this is just one of many conundrums of mothering twins!! Enjoy it and don't worry about it. Mine are just about 4 months and they only use half of the diapers now that they did back then.

Oh -- remember to keep one Newborn diaper as a keepsake! you'll be surprised how quickly they grow out of them.

    1. Ours were mostly formula fed at that point. Every three hours 2 - 4 oz.

    2. Change first to wake them up.

    3. Ours had bad reflux so we burped every oz. or two. Try changing positions - ours burp better sitting up than over a shoulder or knee.

    4. Haven't had too much of a problem - but in the begining we used A&D as a preventative after each change - It definately prevented [IMG]

~ For now it's the only thing they can think of to make you go insane [IMG] - rest assured, they will come up with many more things to make you raise an eyebrow [IMG]
