My husband and I are very interested in cloth diapering. We ordered a few of the Bum Genius one size diapers, the ones that are supposed to fit from 8 lbs to 35 lbs. I just received them today and they are so cute, but they seem extrememly bulky for my little 9 lb baby. Are all cloth diapers this way? I cannot even imagine that one of his little newborn onesies would fit over them. Any suggestions or insight?

    Thanks.

Hey there!!! Good for you for going CLOTH!! I love using cloth. We started at about a month with Fuzzi Bunz. I like them however I've heard some complain that they prefer the 'one size' diapers. I don't mind going up in sizes as they hold a good resale value. I've also tried Dry Bees which have velcro and they work alright. I have more to add the kids are starting to stir though! Feel free to PM me :)

We CD too. I don't have experience with the BG, I use mainly pockets (I have fuzzi bunz, swaddlebees and Haute pockets one size) and CPFs. I haven't found that they are extremely bulky and they can still wear their size clothing.

We love our cloth diapers. We use Bum Genius one-size in addition to several other brands. The Bum Genius are a bit bulky, but they'll fit better as your babies grow. You can use microfiber towels from Wal-Mart/Target automotive section instead of the one-size inserts to make them not so bulky. We still use the towels as a doubler with the inserts at night. I've never had a problem fitting clothes over them. To answer your question, not all cloth diapers are as bulky as the Bum Genius. Some of the trimmer brands I've found are Green Acre Designs (www.greenacredesigns.com), Blueberry (www.blueberrydiapers.com), & Knickernappie Disposanots (www.clothdiaperoutlet.com).

If you sew, you can make some in different sizes. Here is a website with a pattern:

I am in the process on making some. I posted a question about CD in the 1st year and someone gave me that site :)

    They seem pretty simple...good luck!

We used FB (Fuzzi Bunz) extra smalls when our babies were first born. Now we're using a combination of Happy Heiny's and Bum Genious, plus a bunch of diapers a friend lent us (Swaddlebees fitted diapers, Mother of Eden covers, more FBs).

Our favorites are Happy Heiny's. The Bum Genious has a few "fatal flaws" in our opinion. For one thing, the "stretchy tabs" wick onto our babies' clothing when they're wet. The other thing we don't like is the back "flap" where the insert goes in and out. It makes for a big mess with poopies. (They have to put that flap in otherwise they violate a patent held by another diaper company). If it weren't for these flaws, BG would be our favorites. About the fit, those microfiber inserts are HORRID. Get thee some Joey Bunz inserts or some other hemp insert that is not only trim, but better at holding pee.
