    Hi Everyone,

I am 26 weeks along, feeling pretty good besides for the tiredness and occasional pains. I am trying to plan a three day trip with the family before it gets late. I was wondering until what stage was it ok/comfortable to travel by car. I would say it would take us about 7 hours to reach our destination.

    Thank you.

    hi Sara!

i would check with your ob - will there be any hospitals around? you would need to stop every 1-2 hours to get out of the car and walk around to prevent blood clots....

I just got home yesterday from a 7 hour trip to my brother's wedding. Everything is fine with me, my pregnancy has been super uneventful, but after this weekend I would NOT recommend it.

PM me if you want details. I'm not trying to scare you; everything is fine with me, but had the trip been for something other than my brother's wedding I would not (in hindsight) make it again.

I would check with your doctor before taking the trip. My ob didn't want me to travel after 25 weeks. I know every pregnancy is different but I would still check with your ob.

I went on a similar trip when I was 27/28 weeks. I too had had a completely uneventful pregnancy and was cleared by my OB with no concerns. I felt like I did everything right, I rested/drank water/stopped frequently...............when I came back at my next appointment I was 2cm dialated, under 2cm in length, 80% effaced, funneling with a bulging bag. Since everything was going soo smoothly just before I left I can't help but think there was a connection between all that happened to me (I was contracting without even feeling a thing every 2 minutes). I am not at all saying it is inevitably going to happen to anyone but me but if I could have done it all over again I would not have gone on the trip.

Check with your OB....but honestly, I wouldn't do it. I canceled a long car trip at 24 weeks -- my cousin was having an engagement party, big family affair, and I really wanted to go -- but skipped it on my OB's recommendation.

Now, at 29 weeks, I am so uncomfortable that I can't sit for more than 20 minutes in the car!

I was supposed to go to a wedding this past weekend, but had to cancel the trip because my OB didn't want me traveling more then 2 hours away from the hospital during my third trimester. I asked myself this question too: "If something happens and I end up delivering my babies or being admitted to the hospital, do I really want it to happen 13 hours from home?" The answer, for me, was No. Honestly, I'm having trouble sitting through an hour and a half dinner, I can't imagine a 7 hour car ride.

I couldn't do it either. I get contractions just riding in the car to Target. I would be scared of something happening far away from home, too.
